So the money pit is finally up and running. Resoldered the main relay and changed the plugs. But it still has the same problem, sometimes at around 4k in second or third gear it will cut out and almost die. Seems like there is a fuel flow problem, its fine at higher and lower rpms. Stock d16 motor.

I'm guessing it might be the fuel pump? If it were the injectors I would think it would happen at different rpms. Anyone have any clues?

 

you might check your ignition switch, of all things. i just had to change mine because of a similar cutting out/difficulty restarting problem. you should test the switch before you swap it, so you dont waste your money though.

Something else to check should be your distributor. you can also test the wiring and all that to see if there is a dead circuit in it.. if there is, get a new distributor.

are you getting any check engine lights at all?

I had a civic hatch with the same problem and it was my dizzy.

 

No check engine codes before it dies, it just will be running strong and then the engine cuts out at the 4k spot. Almost like there is a lack of fuel. Is there a way to test out the distributor before buying a new one?

you can test them at schucks and i think les schwab does it to along with a few other more known parts stores like autozone

 

It's been doing it for about a year. But before I'd just jam the clutch in when it began to cut out and it would be fine. Just got the clutch redone so I've been taking the rev's higher and now its a sporatic problem. It does seem to go away when the car is running warm though.

Is there a post on how to test the dizzy? I'm fairly lame on electrical.

 

Start simple. Get a volt/ohm meter and a haynes book. There is alot of info about trouble shooting. It will be your electrical bible!! Good luck!!
