Did I do any damage?
About 5 or 6 times I have turned my auto 06 accord off when it was still in drive then it kind of paused and I had to throw it in park and finish turning it off.

What paused, the car or the key? From what I can tell, your key only turned to accessory (one click) and then stopped. This is what it's supposed to do. Once you put the tranny in park, you can turn the key all the way off and pull it out. This is a safety feature which prevents you from leaving the car (with your key) and leaving the car free to roll around (not stopped by the parking brake inside the tranny). You did not do any damage by doing this.

No damage. Just don't do it anymore. not because of potential damage just because its not necessary. And doesn't really make any sence. Put er in park then turn it off and then remove the key. It's SOP (standard operating procedure)
what i do is roll uo to where im gona park and hit the brakes, move it from drive to Neutral, then set the parking brake wif my foot still on the regualr brakes, then foot off and baclk on the brakes to load up the parking brake, then set it in park, and shut off the motor
that way i dont put any pressure on the parking mechanism inside the tranny and get that clunk sound when u shift outof park on any incline
thats SOP for me, it only takes me a few seconds to do

thats good to do, either way, i personally don't like that noise either, but i also know from towing boats and such, they put ALOT of strain on the parking mechinisim in the tranny, so i just used to putting on the ebrake. It saves everything on wear and tear, as long as its adjusted properally.

i'm not saying use the hand brake, I use it all the time too, however I have a 5spd. My point is, you dont have to set the parking brake when its in neutral, then put it in park.

i know haha.
i was jsut saying its a good idea because it relases the pressure, but it could be done in park too, just keep your foot on the brake

always apply ur parking break BEFORE u put it in park when you park, takes the strain off of the transmission, ive seen alot of cars that screw crap up when parking on a incline like that.

+1 if u pay close attention, next time try it my way (neutral first, handbrake, then park) and ull notice that the tcar rolls back a tiny bit when u take ur foot off the regular brakes as it loads up pressure on the rear tires, so u have zero pressure on the parkin mechanism
