Welcome to the Prelude forum. Well, there ain't that much to look for when shopping for Preludes. Basic stuff, like rust on the body and regular maintenance, is what you should look for. As far as VTEC goes, you can always buy one without VTEC (either an F22A or a H23 engine) and swap in the H22 engine, which has VTEC. Everything you need to know is in the FAQs link at the top.
Once again, welcome.

It will be difficult to find a vtec lude. The real ones were all 5-spd manual for those years. They also had Leather interiors and a 7th speaker between the back seats (94-96 vtec). Try only to get an original one not a recently "swapped one." Like was already posted you can buy an Si with the H23 and swap in the vtec H22 or H22a quite simply and for around $2k or less if you can do the work.
In general look for rust around the wheel wells in the rear, matching vin numbers, matching color in all of the door jams. You also want to see some maintenance records, specifically the timing belt which is a must every 80-100k miles. If the seller cannot PROVE that the belt was replaced, that is at least a $500 reduction so that you can get it done immediately for piece of mind.
$7000 is plenty to work with IMO, good luck!

thanks alot. that makes this A LOT easier. Im not so concerned about getting a V-tech. but it HAS to be a manual. Im sure most everyone would agree with that.
I recently purchased a 95 VTEC which I've been enjoying for about a week now.
It has the beginings of rust in the back wheel wells... but came with all documentation for maintenance and records going back three years. I'm only the third owner...
I was lucky, even though the car has some cosmetic problems, mechanically it is in very good shape. A buddy of mine bought a really clean (inside and out) used civic and wound up throwing a rod. Hes not an aggresive driver, coulda just been a fluke I suppose, but it cost him about 3k for a new engine. Make sure you do your best to verify any cars condition before purchasing for your own peace of mind on the road.

mine has 168,000 miles now and still running strong lol. I was pretty much in the same boat as you when I bought mine, had to be manual, and I just got lucky and ended up with a VTEC. it'll be hard to find one with low miles, especially a vtec. if you're concerned with low miles, I'd get just the S-model and swap in a JDM h22a with low miles
