any tranny experts around?
it's going to grind in reverse since their is no synchro. What is recommended is that you go into 1st gear, then go into reverse and that should stop it from grinding. As for grinding through 1-5 gears, basically your tranny is screwed. You can try using GM synchromesh tranny fluid to see if it will cure some of the problems. For some trannies it works wonders, on some it doesn't. You will get mixed reviews if GM synchromesh is good/bad for Honda transmissions, but IMO if your tranny is grinding it's already messed up anyways, why not give it a shot.
check tranny fluid make sure its genuin honda fluid I had mine drained and refulled with honda fluid and it worked great i had some junk shyt in there and it really screwed shyt up I talked to a guy that does nothing but honda trannys and says the trannys love nothing but the best HONDA
ok thanks dudes..i got honda tranny fluid in it now.
it doesnt grind in gears, but they are are hard to go in...not smooth and reverse grinds everytime
i'll try that first gear first technique.
i was wondering what else it could be..clutch,clutch,cable or whatever else
thanks again

if you were to replace your clutch would there be anything you can do to freshen up the tranny?
what would you replace to make it last longer?

I can't remember which bolt it is but I know if you have one of the bolts holding the shift linkage on too tight it can make it difficult to shift sometimes....perhaps someone else can fill in my blank
Is your clutch fully disengaging? Difficulty shifting with the car running can be caused by this. Try shifting the transmission with the car off. Is it still difficult?
It could also be worn synchros. Your transmission is over 15 years old and chances are it hasn't been rebuilt. If someone before you beat it up, the synchros will not stop the shaft from spinning in time before you try to shift. Take your time shifting and save your transmission, or open it up and replace the synchros.
On all transmissions I put in my cars I have done a full rebuild - seals, bearings, and oil guides. I inspect the synchros and replace if necessary. Prepare to open your wallet for a full rebuild, but the benefit is a transmission that will last a long time if taken well care of.

Replace the clutch disc, clutch cover and release bearing the harder shifts and grinding reverse is caused by a dragging clutch. I'm an experianced Honda/Acura tech and i'd put money down on that. dax on here seems to know good as well
. If it shifts well when off(clutch not in use) then most likely is the clutch assembly, now if its still bad look into your cable adjustment or any bent parts, highly doubt it though.

yesa master...........
too many items that can be at fault.......
misadjusted or stretched clutch cable, bad pressure plate.......DRIVER (no offense!)
10w30 in a OEM tranny, no freaking Honda MTF/MTL or Pennzoil/GM Synchromesh gonna be a band-aid for a shitty tranny.

Grinding in reverse, push the clutch all the way to the floor then put the car in 1st or 2nd before going for reverse without ever letting the clutch pedal up. If the car still grinds you most likely need a clutch. If you can't get it in at all, shut the engine off put it in reverse and start it up.
A bad clutch will show up as resistance while moving the shifter into any gear. The resistance is the syncros having to work harder.
Also for anyone out there who doesn't know any better, don't downshift into 1st gear unless the car is fully stopped or unless you let the cluch out and rev the hell out of the engine. It will wear your syncros unnecessarily and kill them.
