Default 2.0L lsvtec

hey guys , after some research, i m starting on my engine build. I just picked up a bored/sleeved 84mm ls block with crankshaft from a good friend of mines and i had a gsr head laying around in the garage that i will send out for headwork. I am building this for daily driver here in CA where we only have 91oct. I want to make this as reliable as possible but somehow hoping to get pass the 230whp mark.

I am wondering, as far as compression goes , will running 11.5 and 12.1 compression be a big difference ?

I ve narrowed down my cams to skunk2 pro1s or pro2s / rocket m22x and m24x, which cams will better fitted for this kind of setup ( want more high rpm power over midrange).

I ve heard that Ti retainers tend to wear , but also heard that it doesnt apply to the rocket motorsport line of retainers. Is this true and if so, why is that ?

thanks for the input guys

Your compression level will be fine assuming that your motor will be tuned. The whole TI retainer wear apply's to many different VT's on the market today, the reason you never see Rockets retainers wear is because there is actually a TON of r&d to them. The gen 1 and 2 series were incredible, the new SL line is even better. If you're looking for top end power and depending on who is doing the head, I would look into the M24x or the Pro2. The Pro2's are a bit larger yes, but in a healthy and properly tuned motor, I would stack them against the Pro2 anyday. The M22xx would also be another great option as they have carried power past the 9k mark many many times, an AWESOME drag race cam. What intake and header are you using? What are you going to tune with?

i m thinking about using the skunk2 proseries IM with a 68 TB and a rage big tube header and most likely tuning with crome. can the m22x cam perform well with this setup because a guy around my area is selling a lightly used set with the gen2 valvetrain for cheap or will i benefit a lot more with the m24x and pro2 ?

and also will choosing a regular forged piston with 11.5 compression instead of a 12.1 change power output and charateristic of the engine alot ?

realisticly, my goal is to have 240whp + and also last 50k + abusive miles. is this goal acheivable with this setup ?

so this is your goal then right???

i have cast RS ITR pistons in this motor with a full portflow GSR head. the blox b cams are cheap and they make good power throughout entire power band...that's what i'm using too. i'm not sure about the titanium retainer issue but my motor is over a year old now and it's been beat at sanctioned and non-sanctioned events (if you know what i mean )

the b20b motor has stock sleeves, crank and rods held together with ARP rod and head bolts. i have JG Victor X manifold with a port matched 70mm throttle body. injectors are RC370's fed by an intank walbro 190lph fuel pump. air/fuel ratio and ignition is controlled via hondata s300.

motor has well over 150 passes on Prostreet Import's dynojet alone (shop owner learned hondata tuning on my motor ). motor has been revved up and beyond 9500 rpms in most of the passes. motor is daily driven about 2-3 times a week and on the weekends. hope this helps out in your build...you don't necessarily have to have forged pistons on high compression motors. get a reputable machine shop to build up your head and you should be looking at 230whp through the exhaust np

Wow, that was helpful.

Here's the converse of that statement:
"I heard some nice things about blox cams."

Seriously, stop the explective gossip.

I run the stg 1's and would like to know if there is a problem.

I have heard about some nasty high dyno numbers and have seen some outstanding quality from these cams. My own personal pair of blox c's have seen almost 30k miles with no unusual wear. Word!
