Default JDM ITR Steering wheel install problem. Weird Obstacle.

So I'm trying to remove the POS pep-boys Grant GT steering wheel from my car and put in an ITR wheel that I bought. When I removed the hub from the Grant steering wheel I ran into this...

It's definitely not coming off easily. I'm assuming that it is a piece that goes w/ the Grant steering wheel because the tri pattern bolts right on to the hub.

I'm also assuming that the JDM hub goes in it's place because of the splines.

How the fvck do I take this gay pos off so I can put on my JDM steering wheel? Does it look like the splines are fvcked because of the shitty previous install?

Yeah, that's what I thought. But it's so damn hard to take it off, I feel like my whole dash is going to rip off with it. Is it supposed to just slide off the splines?

Definitely needs to come off. Try tapping the sides off it with a hammer to loosen it.

So I got all this tape off and this is what i found underneath:

Does this thing snap out of the plastic somehow? Man I really don't want to break something that's RHD sensitive. I can't tell what's RHD stuff, if any. I would think it's all the same.

i hate to be the man with bad news.

Your splines are fucked. this is the concept, are you with me?

ok, you have a stripped lug nut, the usual socket wont work..(basically a "6" spline hub)...SO. back in the day, i used to take a socket 1 size smaller and get a fat hammer. You actually hammer the smaller socket upon the lug nut. And then breaker bar that off.

What you have is the same issue, you just have a lot more splines AND you freaking have to saw it off.(only cause your problem doesnt unscrew, you problem is you need a fresh one.)

I saw this off, then what? What is the name of this central part that has to be replaced? I don't even know where I would start sawing. Man, I think this is going to my shop. Sounds like I could easily royally fvck this up. The last thing I want to do is to randomly fvck up some RHD part that will take forever to special order.

unless im not seeing a picture or something, nothing looks to be wrong with the splines. i in fact had the exact same problem on my car, the grant piece got stuck on my steering column when i tried installing my momo itr wheel. all you need is a tool that bolts to the three holes in the grant piece and has a bolt that threads through the center to push on the center of the steering column. i think its actually called a steering wheel puller. you can find one at any parts store. good luck

I had the same pos hub in my car.The way i removed it was by getting a big flat head screw driver and a hammer. Just hit it from the back of the hub towards you. Just make sure you dont hit it from just one side, you have to tap it from all around so it does not come off at angle. Or else it will get stuck or screw up threads. Hope this helps.

Yeah, it was certainly a firewall swap. I have pics of the whole process. Just have to find them. In my sea of pictures haha.
