My GSR head is at the machine shop and they told me that the stock surface is perfectly fine from the factory with no warping or dings. how much do you think i need to surface off? precise calculation.
and he said the exhaust valve guides are out of round, do I have to replace them? what are the consequences if i don't?

How much compression do you want out of it?
A resurface is usally as little material as possible. Milling is when you take material off to bump compression. I'd let your machinist do the job you're paying him for.

im not looking to mill, i just need the minimum resurface for a new surface.

bump for more opinions. what about the valve guides being "out of round"?

Here's my philosophy. I wouldn't give someone money to do anything to my engine or car unless I trusted their work. If you don't trust your machinist, find one that you do trust.
Taking .010" off is a mill and will bump your compression a tenth or two. A resurface is usually more like .002"-.005". But your machinist said that your mating surface is fine, so why do you want to resurface it? Again, trust the man or find a different one.

^ very true, a resurface is just a skim to ensure good head seal. I have been told many times by my machinist that the ex guides in the b-heads are usually too loose. I replace them.
