Default Anybody gotta MegaSquirt?

Ok, its not like it sounds in the topic, this is the standalone engine management that I run in my turbo saturn. I'm concidering purchasing another megasquirt for my CRX as I'm already an expert at this EMS. So is anybody else running this system? I searched and it doesnt seem very popular w/ you guys. Spark and fuel are fully controlable w/ this system, and it allows you to run any injector you want.
I run 550cc injectors in the saturn and it idles like stock, of course, that all depends on the tune. You just connect a laptop and wideband, and drive around watching the AFRs, you press 'q' or ' w' to richen or lean out the fuel map accordingly. When your done, you set it to use the wideband to keep the AFR at your definded level for max gas milage/emissions, when you enter boost, or WOT, you can have it use only the fuel map for max power. . More info at http://www.sparkandfuel.com/ca...id=36
The unit that I bought has boost control also

Almost no one uses it in the Honda world because it's trying to fix something that isn't broken. We have EMS that can do the job for less working with everything all there.

What system do you guys prefer? Sorry, I'm very limited on my honda knowledge. Boost is a possiblity for the crx in the future. Or I might just go w/ a B16 or B18.

don't forget BRE for OBD0 VTEC ecu's (PR3/PW0)

and some Honda people do use MegaSquirt for highly-modified/forced-induction/race engines

Justin,

Megasquirt is a very powerful and affordable engine management system, but you won't get much love from most Honda owners with it.

I'd be willing to say the Honda's ECU is probably one of the most cracked ECUs on the market, and there are TONS of companies selling (or freeware-ing) the ability to tune a stock Honda ECU. Honda left a few hidden back doors in their computers, and a few smart people figured out how to jimmy the locks.

Megasquirt is popular with other setups that aren't as cracked as the Honda computer. I'm guessing that for cars like Saturns, the engineers didn't leave any back doors in the ECU for reprogrammable maps.

I have always been a fan of Hondata - sure it isn't freeware and lots of people will talk against it, but their customer support and service was excellent when I used them, and I was very happy with the way my car turned out.

Just because everyone on HT is on the hate-megasquirt bandwagon doesn't mean it's a bad system. I'm currently restoring a 1971 Honda N600 to factory specs, and when I'm through, I'm thinking of taking another one I have and fabbing a CBR 1000 RR engine or something like that in it and turbocharging it. If I do, I'll probably use megasquirt.

I personally am not impressed with MS. The tuning software sucks and the system is a hodgepodge of many different plugins and software versions. There is no centralized location for exact problems solving info. Cold start up sucks.

I guess if you like to piddle with stuff it is good, but I prefer a professionally developed system, that I can call and talk to the engineer who designed the system, as opposed to getting forty different answers.

Megatune is awful, it is overly complicated and very slow to tune with. There are somethings to pay extra for. An intuitive software development
is one of those things, quality customer support is another.
You get what you pay for.

I used to run Megasquirt on my DOHC ZC turbo.

It seems like your trying to sell people on it moreso than getting opinions on it,

No not trying to sell, just introduce people to it, because when I searched, I realized that there was basically no knowledge of it here. Your right about it being a jumbled mess of versions of the program, however there is currently only 1 good operating code for it called the High resolution MegaSquirt and Spark Extra.

But anyway, I see most people arent interested, so never mind. I will look into these other editing programs though.

Just chip an ECU. Alot cheaper and really not all that difficult to learn.

If you are comfortable tuning with MS, stay with it. Not very many people use it because of the other options.

use what your comfortable with. godd rule of thumb. With that being said, there are much better solutions for a honda. I run chrome in my honda. Someone many times has said" it is what it is, son" hondas are cheap fiz and toy with. chrome follow that suit. I looked into one of these for my 1jz supra. Not many solutions for my supra under $1500.
