Default Help Request: 1982 Honda Accord

We picked one up at the shop for free, and personally I don't really know what to do with it. Just looking for any information that might help, specifically: what motor fits, rear disc swaps, aftermarket support and so on. We plan to toy around with this thing on the off-time. Thanks in advance.

it's kinda late. Hondadude and a few other people will probably be able to help. Hondadude's an old fart so he goes to sleep early... yet he's the most useful guy here.

Check out 1stgencivic.com; there's a section for 1st gen accords. Hope that helps.

The car is 2nd gen.
Give this a try:
http://www.3geez.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=63
Also try here, there might be people better at pre 4th gen cars than here:
http://www.accordinglydone.com/forum/
People here know a lot about 5th gen and after it seems.

I so wish you had a 1st gen though, those are sexier...!

Well yes I do crash out early; but in my defense I get up at 4:30 a.m. and I am actually turning wrenches at 6a.m. everyday.
Mr Projekt, has an old toy to play with, but there isn't too much that can be done as far as easy mods.
Replace the seals in the prechamber valves to keep it from smoking so much. LOL

Thanks for the help, but this thing doesn't smoke or smell like it's burning anything at all. Odometer reads 49k miles, and I'm trying to find out if that's the original mileage.

Hahahha that's what I was thinking, but either 1,049,000 or 49,000 miles is amazing in it's own right, especially if it still runs normal and smooth.

Hehehe sorry, I only have part ownership. There's only a little bit of rust right by one of the hatch hinges, but I can do little body work.

When it comes to motors and such, you won't find anything that will fit without custom mounts and, well, pretty much everything would be custom. Aftermarket support for that vehicle never really existed to begin with, although I'm sure a Webber carb could be made to fit fairly easily.

Yea I figured. I've been looking at a couple F20Bs and F22Bs, but I'm also trying to narrow down my choices to cable clutched and non OBD. The '85 model had the A20 motor which is supposed to fit with no mods. Finding one would be the feat though. I have no batteries for the camera so I'll post pics as soon as I can.

Car got an oil change, radiator flush, engine bay clean up, new motor mounts, carb re-sealed and cleaned today. Gonna head down to the salvage yard tomorrow and look for some suspension probabilities.

Looks like I'm going to try to find an ES1 or ET series 1.8L with the side-drafts.

The A20 motor was in the 87-89 Accords. The 86 Accord was actually the first year for the 3rd gen Accord, but it still had the older BS or BT motor. An 85 should have the same. Anyway, an A20 shouldn't be too hard to find. The A20A1 was the carb'd motor found in the Accord DX and LX. It had maybe 90 hp stock. The A20A3 was the fuel injected motor found in the LXi and SEi and came with 110 hp, I think.

No FI needed. I like the idea of sticking to carbs, just to have something different.

Yeah, I liked the simplicity of my old carb'd '88 Accord. Well, it was simple after I yanked the OEM carb, emissions equipment, and 99% of all the vacuum lines out and replaced it all with a nice, simple, and effective Webber carb.

Good luck with your project. (No pun intended.)

BTW, do you still have any future mods planned for your track S2000? I've seen a lot of your threads in the S2000 forum, but nothing lately about your own car. Just curious.

I looked into some Weber dual-barrel sidedrafts w/e adapters for the Accord. They look to be about $370 for the set. This depends on whether or not I decide to do an A/F series swap.

The S2000 has been ready and waiting for the Honda Challenge S2000 Cup. Redline season opener starts February 10th.

As far as mods go, I kept it relatively performance oriented. Check out the rambling thread I whored in the S forum.

I would try and fab up an ITB set up, I believe that all old skool cars should have velocity stacks.

P.S. Get a sparco wheel and seat.

Great pics, what a flashback What is my ashtray doing in the center of your rims? LOL
I got pretty fast doing those 'cold start' update kits.
those were the days when the A/C came in a big box from the parts dept. talk about gravy grabbers fighting for the job. LMAO
remember the service bulletin about the vent control vacum solenoids?
ha ha ha ha ha

I'm looking at the Memory Fab buckets, a classic Nardi (or an old used Mugen Racing 1 if they still exist), and chassis mounted Takatas for the tracks. As far as ITBs, side-drafts are just a simpler version.

I actually removed the centercaps from the wheel and cleaned them off. Looks much better, too good for me to use as an ashtray. Besides, I've stolen enough plastic ashtrays from Vegas....

A/C? What A/C?

As far as service bulletins go, I have to read up on a whole new chassis. If you asked me about the S2000 I could probably tell you; as far as the '82 I'd have to go back to basics.
