Default Should I be afraid of my motor blowing on me?

well, I know this may make me seem like ricer and all that but we all make mistakes.

my setup consist of:

stock gsr head (stock valvetrain)
stock header
stock intake manifold
gsr block
81.25mm usdm itr pistons ~ 11:1 compression
crappy intake
2.5'' piping from header back into obx twinloop muffler
it's running on some chip, pretty sure its not stock because the rev limiter was no where to be found when i over reved, and vtec kicks in at 6000.

like a month ago i over reved to 9.5k rpm at the track because i missed 2nd gear.
then i did it again the day after to about 9.5 also.
and couple days ago i over reved to 9k because of missing 2nd again.

yes, i am aware that i'm suppose to be shifting around 8200 and shouldn't be taking stock valvetrain, all these situations were complete accidents.

thanks for reading, please give me your input.

should i be afraid of dropping a valve at a random stoplight or some ****?

my ecu is chipped, i want to get a basemap i can run on. i don't know who i can go with though. i've ran on a chip that phearable provided me and that **** fucked **** up, it went whacko on the freeway one day and cel came on and it was idling at 2200 and stuttering everywhere and i put the old chip back in and everything was fine. who do u guys suggest i go with for a basemap?

i don't wanna get tuned just yet because i plan on getting cams, header, and a better intake in the near future.

Im sorry to hear you had bad experience with Phearable. But John Vega from Phearable did my eprom and it turned out great. I know its not perfect but its a lot better than my stock chip until i get a chance to get tuned. Im planning to go to Churches in So. Cal. You should hit them up for a eprom, im sure they can hook you up since you're a h-t member.

Your best bet is to not dog on it like you have been until you are tuned.

Learn to shift. The rev-limiter isn't going to save your engine if you mis-shift.

Umm yes actually it will as long as you don't shift from 4th to second, which should never happen at the drag strip.

Revving to the top of third and going into second can definately cause destruction. And a rev limiter isnt going to stop the engine from being forced to that high of an rpm.

Edit nvm, he just cant get into second. so yes a rev limiter will help.

ordering a basemap is stoopid... i had a kenji base map for my itr and the car ran like crap... not to say anything bad about kenjis ecus or work... but in my experience the only way to make sure a car is running to potential and within normal safe limits get it tuned... and DEFINITELY ALWAYS HAVE A REV LIMITER... if your on a budget ...take it to someone (a member from h-t in your area) who has and knows how to use a wideband ...and do a simple street tune ... car will run mint... and they shouldnt charge you more than what an ecu with a basemap would cost....

I don't believe you that it was because of kenji's map that your car ran like ****. Kenji's map kicked *** on my b16.

i told kenji what i had.... he gave me a basemap on a p28 for what i had... car ran like **** on 2 cars with same mods different header+exhaust..

FRIENDS
jdm 98 spec itr
ats 4.9 fd
spoon header +full spoon exhaust
test pipe
spoon tb
spoon venturi gasket
aem cai

MINE
jdm 98 spec itr
usdm itr trans with 4.7 final drive
hondata intake manifold gasket
spoon tb
hytech big tube header
hytech 2.5 twin loop exhaust
comptech icebox

not saying anything about kenjis work... but sometimes skipping the tuning process just doesnt work...you cant guess when making a fuel/timing map no matter how good you are...

you shouldnt be driving on a basemap anyway. it should only be used to get the engine started and the get the car to the tuner.
