Noises, Noises, and MORE NOISES!!!!! PLEASE HELP!??!?!
I bought my 88 si a few weeks ago. I have experienced noise after endliess noise ever since I got the damn thing. I want to get rid of all these noises so I can make the car what I really want it to be. But almost every few days I hear another brand new noise and it's really starting to **** me off. So, pick a noise from below and see if you can help. Here's the list as of now (in the order that I began to hear them):
1. Hum that sounds like its coming from rear. Only experience this noise when the car is moving. It goes higher in pitch the faster I go. And today I noticed that when I turn left the noise will cease and when I turn right the noise gets ever louder. Doesn't really make the noise at low speeds. IDEAS: I have no clue what this noise is! But it certainly is one of the most annoying ones.
2. Metal vibration noise. This noise only occurs at certain RPMs. Always at around or just befor 4000. Sometimes around 2000. It's a high-pitched clanking sound. IDEAS: I think it some part of the exhaust system that's loose...but as always not sure.
3. Clicking when turning at low speeds. I know this one is busted CV boots. I'm gonna replace my drive axels...both outter CV boots are busted. Any tips well appreciated.
4. Knocking from the rear when braking. This noise sucks. Only when I brake I hear a knocking from the rear when I brake and the knock slows as the car slows. I can kinda feel this in the brake pedal...just a little bit. Ideas?
5. Engine chattering. I mostly notice this in the morning on the way to school. I don't really know how to describe it other than "chattering". I have suspisions of misfiring....I suppose I need to have a look at my timing belt, the timing, spark plugs...ideas?
6. BRAND NEW NOISE. This one starting tonite. Clicking noise seems to be coming from the engine bay or console. May be my shitty radio jiggling around...maybe the engine imploding in on itself...who the hell knows! This one is the mystery noise.
Also non-noise related...my car has trouble starting sometimes...almost for sure if its really hot outside.
Thanks for any input...please help me make this car a joy instead of the pain in the *** it has turned out to be.

The last two are due to your rocker arms and lifters....its an old car and they arent as lubricated and smooth as they used to be, sssoooo...the chatter, and in the morning when the engine has been sitting for a while and they arent lubed up with oil.....then they are very loud...mine does the exact same.....
Ive noticed some of the same stuff you have......my worst noise is coming from my rear hatch, it sounds like somthing is just rattling around....I think along time ago somting broke off and fell inside some plastic molding and thats it, I plan to rip out my rear interior soo...I guess Ill find it.

#2 could be the Cat Converter Heat Shields. Get a broom stick, and poke the cat and see if the sound goes away. If it is the shields it will usually do it at idle.
#4 maybe you need new brake shoes.
And trouble starting how? Does it crank over or does it do it sometimes and not others? If it sometimes doesn't crank then it is the starter, but thats very easy to replace. Try dumping some fuel injector cleaner in the car and see if that helps any if it is cranking.

I also currently bought a 88' Si and I have lots of noises to work on, including the cat rattleling at cetain times.
Also my the car shakes alot when at idle, I was told it is the motor mounts, I'll try to change those tonight.
I'll let you know what I find out about my Cat rattleling when I work on it this weekend.
