Just got a Type R! I need an alarm before it gets stolen!!
hey, I'm pretty damn excited, I just got my hands on a 01 type R (#0763). So far im lovin' every minute that I'm spending behind the wheel, BUT... I don't want the fun to stop with it disappearing from my driveway in the middle of the night. What alarms do you guys have? I want to get something as soon as possible b/c so far my security system consists of locking the doors and blocking the car in with whatever other car is in the driveway
Professional thieves can bypass any alarm, so don't go spending your money on something too extravagent. A good install will make a decent alarm work well. You should also convert to RS door handles, relocate the hood release cable and get a steering wheel club and autolock (for the brake and/or clutch pedals). A kill switch (or two or three) is also a good idea, especially in NY, NY. Block the car in with as many other vehicles as possible, or better yet, put it in a garage...this is probably the single best thing you can do.
I would suggest reading the security section of h-t. Lots of good tips in there.
It seems that the best security is to have different layers. Such as hardware(autolock, club), electronics(alarms where installation is the most important factor of its success), and manual connections(i.e. fuel pump cut off switch).
But the best protection of all is good insurance.
HTH.

Congratulations on the car, but in all honesty. If I were you I'd start by removing your location from under your username. I also live in NY and I can tell you that we are in the absolute worse place to own an ITR. They disappear like wildfire and truthfully, your car has a very short llife expectancy if it's left outdoors and not garaged. Forget about alarms, get a Mul-T-lock shifter lock (about $250) and an autolock. These two pieces of steel will do more for you than ten alarms and 50 pagers. Cheers, and best of luck.
well for home protection get motion sensor lights, security cameras, and most of all, a big dog. you can get the lights at home depot for like 10 bux each and the cameras for about 100-200 with a tv monitor and 2 cameras. the dog is the best because they always bark when someone is near, so whose gonna steal a car wih all that noise.

get the new compustar alarm, 1.25 mile paging distance. I got the old style and the new on sitting in my room. I like it. Make a fuel kill switch, block your car in/garage it. Put those locks on it, take the steering wheel off, remove the wheels. LoL like they said check the security forum for more optons, but i suggest the compustar. Got mine for $250 ;D I got a killer deal
if you wanna 2 way paging system get the Aladdin, it works the best and DEFINATELY get sound deafaning horns, at LEAST 3 lol...
have someone very knowledgeable install it, clever placement of the brain and sirens is important, adding dummy whires and secondary batteries is also a must. but i know that if i had an R id also get a Prox, so they cant even get near to try and mess with it.
It's all about the layers of protection. A decent alarm is good, but layers is the key. I would be scared to death living in NY w/an R, and parked outside. A fuel cut off switch is good, just dont tell anyone where it is.
Congrats,,,
And like H-pimp said, "If they want it, they will take it!"
Another measure is LOJACK. We both know someone who had his PY stolen and recovered with minimal damage.
Good luck, now you gotta start to hit some events and learn how to drive the beast.

I would reccomend:
-alarm w/ pager/shock sensor/tilt sensor/backup battery/siren
-disconnect power locks
-steel plate under release cable by front bumper
-lojack

Very nice car!!! Enjoy it but deffinately Garage it. I too live in NYC, Brooklyn and there have been no attemps on my car but its due to the vigalant care of making sure its not alone or left out in the open. Just tonight I had to meet up with this girl I knwo and she asked me to take here to homedepot... So I parked right by the exit of the building where everyone comes out and made sure I quickly got my sh t and also checked the pager every two min( it will respond back) And then she invited me over for ... and waited for a parking spot right in front of the house, yes in the street and prayed that no one messed with it while I took care of bussiness.
So get a pager alarm and if you have the time to install (yourself) a cut off for the fuel and maybe the ing too. Don't let anyone know you have a cut off in the car and if you can't do it then find a family member.
Once again ENJOY and if you are ever in Brooklyn near Bay Ridge give me a shout so we could terrorize the neighbor hood

nicely said
also disable ur power door locks
how useful is a pager alarm...im thinking of gettting one
if the car is parked underground and somebody tries to steal something from your car, would you be paged??

Screw an alarm...I had the clifford 7000 intelliguard g4 (suppositely the best alarm in the market) But my SI got stolen regardless. And my car was stolen at school during my one and a half hour class. You should get the Lojack and the clutch club(don't know the name), and a fuel cut off switch would help too.

Actually an alarm is good for one thing...keyless entry...that's really about it.
