Default for those who have used high temp paint on your calipers

I woundering will the 500 degrees paint hold up to a trake day? All the 1200 degrees paint has really crapy colors, and i just want a semi oem looking color, like no red... SO will it just melt of?
One more question, Do i even need to paint the calipers to protect them from rust? The origanal protectant that honda puts on is all off.

I painted my calipers black with plain ole engine paint. It has held up very well. Lasted through a year and half worth of daily driving and two one hour track sessions without any problem.

I did it mainly to keep the calipers from rusting when I bead blasted them before rebuilding them.

I did the calipers on my Jetta with 500 degree grey when I rebuilt them. Did about 4 coats. They still look great, even with my idiot *** scraping a couple of wheels on them when I changed wheels for the winter. That car hasn't seen a track day though. Haven't painted the calipers on any of my track cars.

What is the OE color? I thought on my prelude, they were flat black.

Actually the OE colour is Cad plated, so You are looking for some sort of goldish color.

I've always felt that painting calipers helps to insulate them, causing them not to dissipate heat as well = bad. Any thoughts on this?

Four years ago I painted mine dark grey... the paint is still there and not one single chip!
It's all about the prep work. I used 500deg paint.

are you worried about track use?

If you get some experience your brakes will get well above 500 degrees

yeah, ive heard they get upwards to 700-1000, and i will be tracking the car alot for many years to come, but i've decided not to paint them since they won't rust from rain, from what ppl have been telling me rain dosen't really ever touch them that much too.

I used paint that came in one of those paint packages they used to have for brakes and one day of track use melted it and it started chipping off after that.

I used VHT caliper paint and after 1 track school weekend, The calipers turned a bluish purple, not a hint of the gold I had painted them. I also turned all my seals into a crispy mess. They were brand new calipers with brand new Hawk blues and new Brembo blanks.

If you track the car, I wouldn't bother painting them.
