New SEXY mods
This hot piece of metal came in the mail today. Can't wait to change it. I'm hard of hearing because of my Spoon. J's 60rs for those who don't know.

And here is a set of 4.77 final drive gears. Yumm.....maybe i'll hit that 12.9 before Santos
. Gotta find a good install place and yellow box for it. I'm debating whether i should get the comptech reinforced diff. Everybody and their grandma warn you of broken diffs. I've never known anybody to have one...should i get it?

Are you boosting? Do you go regularly to track events? If you answered NO to both.... Comptech diff is a overkill. Just change out the dif fluid more frequently than scheduled.

Diff fluid is going to help the diff out, but its not going to make it bulletproof. If the diff is going to blow its going to blow.
How many miles do you have on it Zack?

Why did you just buy the gears? Then to have to find someone to install them...
Why not just buy a rear end with them installed from hardtopguy and then send back your core?
just curious, it would have been a lot faster swap......

at $900?? i don't think so. thats without shipping. gears were $220. install....$150 or so. Yellow box $100. Install of Yellow Box $40. Total....$510. Give or take 40 bucks. Thats including yellow box and install. You are looking at over a grand from HTG.

its finding the ideal size, that is the problem..... a friend of mine that is a honda/acura tech at the dealership had trouble installing the gear b/c the shims that came w/ the fd were not ideal....so the diff whined because the teeth did not mesh correctly....
he sent it off to hardtopguy and had it built(they have more shims to choose from) and there was barely an audible whine......meaning the gears were better matched and would last longer....

he probably had 4.57 gears which are notorious for their whine. i haven't really heard too much about people with 4.77's getting whine. There is a local shop that does a real good job and they know what they're doing.

4.57 whine because of the way they are cut. the 4.56 are supposed to solve this problem.
with 4.77 you will always be in the high rpm's, so youl hear your exhaust and not gear whine
