the years of these cars are not in question, it's the body that is in question (4/2 door, hatch)

I dont see why not, they're all the same they will all fit. the sedan/hatch/coupe all use the same size bumper, fender, hood, and grill.

That's what I am looking for:
Just to clarify: if I buy a hatch bumper, fenders, hood, etc. - it will fit my sedan?

I swear 99-00 has a slightly different light & fender from 96-98. Not so sure about the hood.
96 Civic Coupe Headlight is part# 33101-S01-A01, 99 Civic Coupe Headlight is part# 33101-S01-A02. So they're not the same part, though the exploded diagram I found is the exact same damn diagram.
As for the differences between coupe & sedan, the front fender on a 99 Civic Coupe EX & a 99 Civic Sedan EX are listed as part# 60211-S01-A10ZZ. 96 also uses the same part# for an EX Coupe & Sedan - part# 60211-S04-A00ZZ. So it looks like, at least within the same year, the fender is interchangeable. The diagram isn't identical but the fender is the same part#.
But hey, do some more comparisons and decide for yourself. I just opened up two tabs to the site, drilled down to pull up one model fender in one tab, then drilled down to a different model fender in the other. Flip back and forth between tabs and note differences.

Ok, here's a concrete solid answer:
96-98 have the same front fenders, bumper, hood, and headlights. The sedans have a different grille than coupes/hatches, but the fitment is interchangeable.
99-00 have the same front fenders, bumper, hood, and headlights. The sedans have a different grille than coupes/hatches, but the fitment is interchangeable. The Si coupes also have a different grille, but once again the fitment is interchangeable.
96-98 parts will not work with 99-00 parts.

anyways bakeoff is right i believe the 4dr is different, since the bumper i got for my 4dr was a coupe, and didnt fit up on the mounting holes/grille, there was a gap.
The rear is totally different i believe

This is EXACTLY Right!
Most people responding with BS must not own an EK because if they did this would be common knowledge to them.
It looks like u have a 96-98 front end from the pics
So u want to do a front end conversion?
If so u could've searched & found out all this info...

THANK YOU SIR this man is right on the money with this. thats pretty much waht I was saying up there in my last post but you elaborated more on it.
IMO this should be in the FAQ section

Yes, the rear end on Coupe, Sedan, and Hatchback are all unique to the model. Sedan does that little rolled edge thing, Coupe is more of a right angle, and HB is a hatchback.
But he's not looking for rear end parts, just front. I bet this whole "I bought a sedan part and it didn't fit on my coupe" confusion comes from not realizing that 96-98 & 99-00 don't use the same parts. They bought a 99 sedan part and tried to fit it on their 96, and blame the sedan, not that they got the year wrong.
I bought a 93-95 Del Sol door handle from a guy on eBay who didn't realize that 96-97 are a different color.

yea true forgot about that

Eran is right about the front ends. Also, though a conversion can fit fine without replacing the core support, often it won't or the bumper, bumper support or core support might need modification to make everything line up right. Even then it might not fit perfectly.

Actually, as far as the rear *bumpers* go for 6th gens:
REAR BUMPERS
'96-'98 COUPE and SEDAN rear bumpers are all the same (only different colors for some).
'96-'98 HATCH rear bumpers are all the same.
'99-'00 COUPE and SEDAN rear bumpers are all the same (only different colors for some).
'99-'00 HATCH rear bumpers are all the same.
AND....
'96-'00 COUPE and SEDAN rear bumpers are interchangeable.
'96-'00 HATCH bumpers are interchangeable.
The difference between the '96-'98 rear bumpers and the '99-'00 rear bumpers is that the '99-'00 rear bumpers have a slight "lip" of sorts that juts out at the bottom of the bumper.
'96-'98 Rear Bumper (coupe in example)

'99-'00 Rear Bumper (coupe in example)

TRUNKS
The trunks, as said before, must be from the same body style. The years are interchangeable as far as I know though, and for those with sedans who are stubborn enough, this might give them an option if they want '99-'00 style taillights that badly.
TAILLIGHTS
'96-'00 COUPE taillights are of course interchangeable.
'96-'00 HATCH taillights are also interchangeable.
'96-'00 SEDAN outer taillights I believe are exchangeable, but the inners are not (different shape). There are stock red/clear taillights out there for both year spectrums. If you're interested I know there are stock Civics from the Phillipenes with such lights and the Integra SJ should have red/clears that fit a '96-'98 sedan.
PAINT COLORS
Remember that if you have a stock painted Civic the years and body styles are often painted different colors.
- DAP only runs from '97-'99 only on hatchbacks.
- Midori Green is only for '96 hatches.
- Island Coral was only for '96-'97 coupes and sedans.
- Granada Black from '96-'97 and Flamenco Black from '98-'00.
- Cypress Green is on '96-'98 and Clover Green is from '99-'00.
- Frost White is '96-'97 and Taffeta White is '98-'00 (except on the hatch it's only on '00 DXes).
- Cyclone Blue is on '96-'98s sedans and Iced Teal is on '99-'00 sedans.
- Roma Red is only on hatch backs and Milano Red (Tricoat) is only on coupes.
- Vintage Plum is only on '00 EX and LX sedans.
- Titanium is only on '00 sedans.
- And of course EBP is only on '99-'00 Si coupes.
