CRX dies on highway....wtf is wrong???
i just picked up my car 3 days before this happened... it was in the shop for repairs to the wiring harness (fire) and it was running but i was told it had an engine code for the idle air controller, but the controller was fine and it had to be the wiring for it. So it ran perfect for 3 days, besides the odd idling, until one night i was driving home on the highway. I was going about 130km/h at around 4000rpm (stock crx si - D16A6) and out of no where it started backfiring and shut off. It has spark, it has fuel and it cranks but just keeps backfiring randomly and wont start. Someone plz help me.
yeah, it proly wouldn't back fire if the belt was broke, but cant think of a reason it would just die and then not start besides the belt. check ur grounds?

If i were you i would check the the rotor had someones car do the same thing and the little screw that kept the rotor in place fell out and the car backfired and died while he was driving, yeah there was spark but just not at the right time...check that,if the timing belt broke the car wouldnt crank good and not good enough to make a spark, check the dizzy for sure...MOE@HYPER16VALVE...

I wouldn't do that if i were you. Cranking and turning the dizzy with no cap can cause your coil to short and burn out. Open oil cap and check for the cam rotating.

i had a broken timing belt and it still cranked
like i would turn the key and it would be so close to starting but just woudlnt catch.

ok there is an easier way to check this without cranking the car.
get a big wrench to fit the crank shaft bolt. take distributor cap off. Turn wrench around and look at rotor button.
Mine did the same thing. The screw fell out of the rotor button causing car to sputter and back fire then die.
It takes about 10 minutes to do this with resetting the rotor position.
If it is just make sure rotor button is pointing towards #1 cylinder when #1 cylinder is at top dead center.
Got a trick for that one if all else fails as well.

Are you throwing any CELs? Wiring harness fires can be devastating. You could be tracking down shorts for quite some time. Have you blown the ECU fuse? Many wiring harness shorts can cause this fuse to blow, shutting down the engine.
MOE@HYPER16VALVE i could kiss u right now. i took the cap off my distributer and out came the screw that holds down the rotor. problem fixed. thanx guys.
