Default The new guy has a question.. or twoish

So the story goes.. I sold my Legacy GT for an 04 s2k that i picked up 3 weeks ago with 14.5k on it for 22k. Having a blast in the car, I dont drive during the week because im in nyc for work but on the weekends i wanted something i can have fun in when not at the track.

I have a built nissan 240sx, sr swap, coils, 6 point cage, gutted, coils diff.. etc etc blah blah basically everything except a gigantic small animal eating turbo. during the season i trailer it on the east coast to vir, limerock, summit etc for drift events. if not driving it its usually in the Drift Alliance both at car shows, or as an event back up car for two drift alliance drivers on the east coast.
http://www.plaftaphoto.com/gallery/album131?page=1
For now im keeping it, but i may sell it later in the year if i really cant get out with it as often as id like to.

So the s2k is great for me, i cant wait for the weather to really warm up. Maybe ill take it to pocono raceway once or twice.. but i have the 240 that i can put into a wall if i like to, not this.

Couple of questions..

- I kept my blizzack ws-50's from my legacy, 235/45/17 will these fit in the front of the s2k?

- When i bought the car from the acura dealer i only got 1 key and door unlock. how many should i have, any idea how much to get another.. can i?

- these high positive wheel offsets are pretty wack. I dont mind rolling my fenders after getting coils, ive done it many times. What size 17" wheel will be the max i can go F+R without hammering out my wheel wells? i want it flush.

- It still has factory warrenty, but the 7 year 100k warrenty is tempting. can i purchase this before the orig factory one is up or am i S.O.L.?

Thats all i can think of for now, learned a lot searching. Nice to see some tech topics on HT besides "where to find the secret compartment.."

Thanks
Brandon

you will want a wider contact path on your tires. toss what you have.

you should have 2 keys.

im not a wheel expert...ask obserious

don't get the warranty. you wont need it especially on a honda, and they will void if for almost anything aftermarket you put on the car.

Im pretty sure he didnt mean me. There's another guy (ObseriousO) that TOTALLY ripped off my name. JK JK he was there first. anyway, Im getting a 17x9+45 in the rear. You can also put a 17x8 +45 front as probably the max unless you want crazy ridiculous camber angles that hurt your handling. Check out S@ntos's car in the "show me a pic of a clean s2k". I think its towards the end like page 157 or so. thats the 17x8+45 and 17x9+45 combo.

ni S13 you got there homie.. ive been a old fan since my 510 days...

anyways.. rim size.. all depends on how much tire you wanna run...

im currenly running at stated above 17x8 front 17x9 rear +45 all around... could i go lower offset? yes i WISH... within the stock body lines if you want to stick with a 8/9 combo you can get away with 215x45 front 245x40 rear with some rolling of the fenders....
if you want more tire like i do...
225x40 front 255x40 rear would be perfect for me.. but the 225x40 is a hard size to find.
a +35 will work as SilentDancer has ran them but with smaller tires 235x40 rear....
im all about the more rubber the better... but thats on you.

i used to have 235x45's up front but i had aftermarket fenders that were wider wasnt a fan of the fenders thats y i got rid of them

i only got 1 key and remote so dont feel lefted out...

Tire rack has a really good deal on the Bridgestone Potenza REO1-R. I hear they're almost R compound grip. They're available in 225/40/17. Im buying 225/40/17 and 245/4017. Putting them on 17x7.5+45 and 17x9+45 advan RGII.

Thanks for the s13 compliment! I have a blast with it.

good info thanks guys! and clean cars!

So In the front i could get away with a 17x8 +43 - 215/45 ?
Rear 17x9 +43 - 245/40 ?

i may even try that +35 with 235/40 in the rear...

I was thinking about getting another set of the fn's like i have on my s13 for now, inexpensive and look good. Like i said above i dont mind rolling the fenders.... but on my s13 i rerouted the engine wiring harness inside the engine bay over the top of wheel well. as well as bang it out so i could fit 17x9 +20 in the front with stock fenders... i didnt want to do THAT again.

You guys notice that it has some kind of steering dampening.. depending on how fast you you are going (or wheel spin)? Can this be disabled somehow?

steering damping? Never noticed.

My S13 had 17x9 + 12 in the front and i know exactly what you're talking about with the wiring harness. I just made some aluminum brackets to bracket it to the upper fender though. I think you're going a little overboard with the +43 or +35 17x9 wheel. Even if you do shoehorn it into fitting, i've seen an s2000 with too little offset. The guy has FNOIRs (forged ..he got them for $850 brand new. what a jerk) and they dont really look that great because of the too agressive offset. The 17x9 +45 is pretty decent, plus it doesnt require you to put in overly dramatic camber angles.

humm.. I think ill stick with the +43 all around for the 1st set of wheels and take it from there. if its really shitty ill get another pair of +48 for the front. the +45 on your car Santos looks pretty good. do you have a pic from the rear and front to see how flush your wheels are with the body?

these stock wheels are sunken like the titanic

aha!

http://www.nsxprime.com/FAQ/Technical/eps.htm

"Inputs from the steering sensor are digested by a microprocessor control unit that also monitors input from the vehicle's speed sensor. The sensor inputs are then compared to determine how much power assist is required according to a preprogrammed "force map" in the control unit's memory."

when you say revised did the ap1's have a different "force map" that felt more.. normal at speed (wheel spin)? Id like to get around this if possible.

Thanks!!

You have an AP2; the EPS unit is set (compared to the AP1 (00-03) unit) for better feel and weight at low speed, and slightly slower response at higher speeds.

You rang?

17x8 +45 - 215/45 Tire Combo
17x9 +45 - 245/40 Tire Combo

If you plan on tucking tire and stay in recommended wheel/tire width, your fenders will have to be rolled with at least -2.5 camber.

If you plan on running a...

17x9 +35, that is also do-able, but you will be sticking out 10mm more than where you are right now which is almost equivalent to almost 1 inch. Even if you run additional negative camber in the rear, you will be able to stuff that tire under there, but you will be very prone to premature tire wear and will go through tires in like 12 hours lol. Also, you will most likely have to run a 235 stretch on that RR wheel set up and give up some contact patch to the ground

I've personally made a set up which included an 18x8.5/18x9.5 +40 x4 with a 245/215 stretch tire set up an AP1. Looks very hot IMO. This included:

*Cut fenders
*Relocated rear bumper tab
*Negative camber
*Stretched tires (still in recommended patch but smaller for the rim itself)
