My alternator has gone bad in my 90 crx si. It has a b16 swap in it and I was told that in order to change it you have to pull the axel and get at it from the bottom. Is that true?

ive done it b4 w/ the same setup just take out the piece on the master brake cylinder that holds the brake fluid, i think u need a 10mm wrench to take the lines off then a 12mm socket to pull the piece off of the master its really easy just have some extra brake fluid on hand

If i were you take the axle off...the brake idea will work from what some honda heads have told me but break fluid eats paint so unless your real careful not to spill TRY it BUT I'd take the axle off and take it off from the bottom...MOE@HYPER16VALVE...

why would u take the axle off if u dont have too, that takes at least 2-3 hours and u need air tools and could risk damaging the axle if u pull it out wrong, but yes b careful with the fluid and paint

yeah go from the bottom just pop the axle out from the half shaft you dont even have to take the fork off the lower ball joint with cotter pin yeah hit it with a hammer and VIOLA its cake for some...MOE@HYPER16VALVE...but the break thing should work also just break fuild eats paint for sure...
i have no idea if this works with a b16 swap, but on my d16 i just take the alternator out the left side. you have to remove the heater core hose, reposition the fuel filter, and pull the vss cable, but after that it will come out with a little bit of coaxing. it beats bleeding your brakes forever, or possibly needing to get an alignment going out the bottom.. but.. no guarantees on the bseries.

Bseries is alot different from a dseries when it comes to that but that idea should work for a d series...i have both cars 89 hatchbacks one is a Bseries and the other is a dseries different motors different amounts of room to work with...MOE@HYPER16VALVE...
noobies.
under car.
remove oil filter (yes you will get oily)
in the rear of the block there is a mount for a drive shaft, its held on by 3 bolts, take all 3 out and the part should rotate, just pull it down to create space to slip the alt out. (i have no idea what the part is called but its like the intermidiate drive shaft bearing)
undo alt, undo the connections and work it out (takes about 5 mins)
re-fit new one the same way, do up the 3 bolts then re-install oil filter and jobs done.
2-3 hour job at most

Thank you all for all your help! I don't have the right tools to pull the axel so it looks like I'm going to have to pull the brake thing or the oil filter. I will live if the engine bay paint gets a little messed up. It was painted black very poorly and needs to be redone anyway.

you must be insane, I just changed my axle it took all of 20 minutes. take the wheel off take the axle nut off, take the lower ball joint nut off, stick a craftsman ratchet behind the ball joint to pop it, take the lower shock bolt off and pull it out. If that takes you mare than an hour you must be smoking crack

RE: Crx Jimmy hahah well I was just thinking it involved air tools which I do not have.
Anyway i still need to buy this alternator before I get into doing this, so if anyone has anything else that could be helpful please do post.
