Default so my hatch looses all power when you engage the starter??.....

please help me diagnose this problem. 90 ef hatch with a 94 z6 running obd1

turn the key and the fuel pump primes, everything is normal. as soon as you to go start the car and engage the starter, it makes a click sound and looses all power, you have to disconnect then re connect the battery for it to work again. any ideas??? i dunno how related it is, but if the iacv is plugged in, it constantly hums and draws power. is there a short in the wires somewhere??? thanks for looking, this is on my old car i sold to my friends sister

get the battery tested. and the alternator tested. free at autozone or murray autos. it might be one of those

check all grounds, or any exposed wires, anything that looks like it might be in rough shape. Concentrate on the wires around the starter and whatnot

Poor battery ground

<-- Battery in the rear, had power for Key On, but couldn't get the car to start for the hell of me. Turned out the spare tire stem had corroded over

yup yup check the grounds...that happens when something isnt grounded right also be sure to charge the battery because it will drain the power out thats for sure if you keep having to do what you say you been doing...MOE@HYPER16VALVE...
