Wanting to make an exhaust louder
About a year ago, I bought a Tsudo N1 Extreme catback from ebay. It has been disappointing for me how incredibly quiet it is. I feel I'm still riding around in my stock exhaust. I read a post on some site a while back that this guy who had my same exhaust had the muffler cut out and welded a straight pipe in. I'm not sure if he commented on how loud it sounded afterwards but does anyone know if it would just be the same, raspy and loud like muscle car, or actually loud/throaty? And roughly the cost of the welding job. Thanks.

If you take out resonators and/or your catalytic converter, your exhaust will be:
1.) Loud
2.) Smelly
3.) Farty sounding.
That is what I have found to be true on any Honda I've seen and heard without the aforementioned parts.

well its just personal preference... i like to have an exhaust where i can hear that loud throaty rumble .. of course without having to pay for the cost of a Greddy
Your problem is you want the 16oz tenderloin but you only want to pay for the McDonalds double cheeseburger. No matter how hard you try, cutting and changing wont turn that cheeseburger into a steak.
Without mentioning actual engine modifications (ie: Cams, displacement...etc), there are only two ways you can change the tone of an exhaust system;
1) Mufflers, this includes your primary chambered muffler, and any resonator(s) you have. You catalyst can be considered a muffler as well.
2) Piping diameter
If you want a throaty and deep sound, you wont get it with that muffler design. It wasn't designed to be a loud muffler, therefore it wont ever be.
You can remove your catalyst and resonator, this will increase your dB's but you'll also gain a nice raspy tone, especially with the smaller diameter piping that system is made with. Ever heard of the term "fart can"?
I couldn't help but laugh when you talked about Greddy like it was some sort of premium product
But hey, we all start somewhere right?
Start saving for a good system, unfortunately your vehicle doesn't have the aftermarket support of the higher end manufacturers, so you're stuck with mediocre items. IMHO the HKS HiPower is the best off-the-shelf exhaust you can purchase for a 2nd gen. Smooth and deep.

x2. I ran open header for 4-5 months because my exhaust was fucked to death(2 1/2"drop + low hanging exhaust) and it was horrible. I'm glad my car is alot quieter now. Much better!

not true. ebay has good parts but you just shouldnt expect much for something that is ridiculously cheap. you get what you pay for.
