Default Getting a new tranny! good or bad?! HELP NOW

well i took my car to the dealer this morning so they could check 3rd gear and the fact that i have to put force against the shifter to get it outta 2nd gear. they call me back later in the afternoon and tell me i need new gears. the car only has 10k on it and i really dont think it needs new gears, and if so why not wait til it is alot worse?! when i talked with the service manager he said "honda watches their warranties closely. this is the only time they will honor the warranty on the transmission. next time you'll have to come out of pocket which will be in the area of $4,000." now when i bought the car, i bought the extended warranty. the grind and 2nd gear issue isnt that big of a deal. so i would rather just wait and get it fixed later on when it becomes much more unbearable. i dont want my only "gimme" to be at 10k miles and the next 90 im just on my own. that just seems like why did i bother buying an extended warranty if they only cover each problem ONE F**KIN TIME!?!

oh and also, when the service manager called me he said the car was on the lift and the tranny was off. well when i went up there to get my parking pass for college i walked into the service bay to get it outta my car, it was on the lift... however they were just now removing the axels! and my injen intake was just chilling on the ground COVERED in grease and ****! what should i do?!?!?!?!!?!?!?! should i tell them to hold off, put everything back together, there better not be a scratch on my intake, and gimme my car back and fix it later? or let em do it and call american honda and contest the call on the warranty and how it will only fix it one time???? i really need some help with this asap. i left a message on the service managers line and told him i needed to speak to him regarding this since he told me initially the tranny was off the car and that was apparently a lie or misunderstanding and that i wanted everything to be crystal clear regarding this entire situation. HELP ME OUT GUYS! THIS IS MAINLY AIMED AT HONDA TECHNICIANS, MODS OR ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS HAD TO HAVE THEIR TRANNY REBUILT. i really dont like the fact that i have a new car with 10k miles on it, and a rebuilt tranny. please do not call this driver error. i am not a 16 year old just now learing how to drive a stick. so please post only helpful advice or guidance. thanks

I hate dealers. Everytime someone comes in with even a slightly modified car they treat you like criminals.

When they get your tranny fixed call corporate and complain about the terrible customer service. They're basically accusing YOU of the problem with the gears, which is why they are saying you will have to come "out of pocket" next time. Good luck bro!

Just let them fix it.

There isn't a one time gimme thing. If it breaks again, you bring it in. They honor there warranty more than once.. That guy just sounds like a schmuck.

i would definatly be pissed about the intake, i had a few issues when i just had my block replaced.

i would wait until the service is done, then contact honda and let them know what was said and how you've been treated, i'm sure it'll work out for ya.

thanks for the advice guys. i really do appreciate it. i'll let em do it and remove/reinstall the intake when its home again and verify that it isnt damaged. oh well. out of curiousity, and this is OFF topic somewhat... the hondata reflash... would they have not honored the warranty if i had already gotten the reflash? just curious because i was thinking about getting it done after lowering the car and putting some hid's on (i gosta see at night u know!). oh well, i just called the service manager back and left him another message that said to go ahead and do the work and made it sound very friendly and what not so hopefully they wont **** on my motor or something. anyways, thanks again guys! i appreciate it

I suggest you let them fix it. Also, call AND write a letter to Honda Corporate documenting the "threat" that they will not fix it again, if it brakes. Include the "tranny out of the car" issue. If you choose to not have them fix it, I bet they will try to charge you for the time they spent doing the analysis. Don't let them. Just make sure you document everything. When you send it to Honda Corporate, also send a copy to the service manager at the dealer.

I can tell you from experience. If they fix it and it breaks again with in the warranty period, they have to fix it. I have a 26 ft RV that I use to a tow a 12,000pnd boat. I burned through 2 trannies in 30,000 miles and the warranty covered both of them. (course, I did not tell them I was towing a 12,000pnd boat). Each time they replaced it the cost was over $6,000. I paid nothing. The boat is in a slip now at the harbor, so no more trannies for me. lol

They dont want you to put off the repairs because the problem will be worse which will end up costing them more money. They're telling you that unless you get the car fixed NOW if you come back LATER and its worse, they wont fix it. Just let them fix the car. If any issues come up afterwards they will still honor warranty. Its not just a one time deal.

here is the thing, they already told me they had pulled the tranny and they had ordered the parts needed when the service manager told me the "threat" regarding the warranty. the car was already on the lift and "ready" to be rebuilt. there was no issue of me putting it off and it costing them more. they actually told me the first time i took it in "WELL I CAN FEEL THE PROBLEM U ARE REFERRING TO, BUT THERE IS PLENTY OF TIME LEFT IN THE WARRANTY SO LET'S JUST MONITOR IT OVER TIME." that is the words directly from the service guy that drove the car the first time about a month ago. they are just f'ed up and dont wanna replace it again because i "drive it hard" and rev it too high. correct me if im wrong, but when u put a rev limiter at 8k, that means that technically the motor can be pushed up that high on occassion right? i dont drive around in 3rd gear on the interstate doing 70mph and i do hit vtec often, but i dont power shift everytime i go out racing, and definitely dont do it for daily driving. there is no reason he should have said what was said. the tranny should be ready tomorrow.

when he said it... could he have been referring to the fact that it is new gears going in an old trans? not a brand new trans going in? the reason they wont cover the warranty again is because its a rebuilt tranny? hrm

Even if they "rebuild" the transmission it's still covered under warranty until your 3/36 is up.

Depends on the provider of the ext. warranty. In MOST cases they will cover any repair provided its not caused by any sort of driver error. So be careful with your "powershifting".

No.

There are a ton of different contracts that Honda Care, etc offers... they arent' just 60k warranties.

well i just went and picked it up from the dealer. their "car wash" they gave it when they were done... well hell. now i gotta go wash and wax it because it looks like ****. they only replaced the 2nd gear, 2nd gear synchro, 2nd gear shift fork(?) and thats it. they didnt touch my 3rd gear at all. not worried about it. i talked to the woman that checks everyone out and gives em their keys. i always talk with her longer than anyone about bullshit and what not, told her about what had been said and she told me not to worry about it because that was complete and utter BS and told me the guy that said it was an *******. im COVERED until the end of the extended warranty. my ext warranty covers everything. i didnt spend an extra 2g's for nothing. so its all good. not worried about it now. thanks for all the info guys.

i opted for the 100k mile warranty, rim/tire warranty, and windshield warranty. they offered a warranty for like $300 where u would never have to pay for oil changes, and a few others. they pretty much will sell u a warranty on anything they can whether it actually applies to ur vehicle or not. what u dont know what hurt u. right?! they will bend u over and take u to browntown whenever and however they can.

Amen! Don't quote me on this but i believe extended warranties and a couple other goodies are how dealerships make alot of profit. Then when it comes time to put it to use they try to weasle out of it sometimes!

that they do. im sure when i go in and try to get them to fix my wheel since it has a scuff on it, they will tell me its driver error and they wont fix it. i probably just spent $350 on nothing. same with windshield warranty if i never use it.

i heard that if u dont use a warranty u can get part of the money back? is that true?

I dont think this is a threat . that is what will happen. If your tranny took a dump at 10k you have been driving it pretty hard. with my 00 SI they fixed the tranny once,.. second time when the Diff blew up they wouldnt fix it saying that my intake and cat back casued it. I told them they couldnt do that and they then came back with "the car was abused" and i paid them 700 buck to get my car back with a tranny in a box in pieces.

and yes you cn get you money back from the warranty but the value starts to go down from the day you drove off the lot. so you have 10k out of 100k used if have already lost 10% of what you paid for it if not more.
