Default Turbo, Wastegate and BOV question

Just wondering but I'm lookin to boost my car soon. As I'm reading over the turbo sizing I just had some minor questions. Tried searching but really cant find a straight answer.

1. Some people suggested me going with a t3/t4 57 trim. My question is, what do the trim sizes mean? as in the 57 trim etc... also like the a/r trims??

2. As the BOV's and wastegates have their own sizing, ex: 44 mm or 38mm. Does this affect performance or is it just the flange size??

thanks.. Hope I dont get bashed for not searching but really, I couldnt find the answer..

I ran a 38mm Tial on my GSR and it worked perfect.
