Default VTEC Swap F22B

Hey everyone, I'm wondering about putting VTEC on a F22B engine in a 1996 Accord LX. Is this possible? The car has OBD 2 and is a 2.2L 4 Cyl. with a SOHC. I'm sorry if someone has already posted about this, and if they have, if you could just direct me that would be grand.
Anyways, I want to put VTEC on my engine, what all is involved. I would do the work myself, but don't really know too much about engines. I'm fairly good with the electronics and stuff, but I'm going to need some advice on the mechanics. What all makes the engine a VTEC? What parts will I buy when I do this project? Is there some step by step guide somewhere that I can follow or anybody that has done this swap before?
I figured, if I did it, I would do it this summer when I planned to change the Timing Belt, so I could just switch it over to the chain. What do you all think? Like I said I'm looking for advice, so if it sounds like I don't know what I'm doing, set me straight... If you don't mind. Thanks for the help everyone!

The difference in cost between what OP wants and what you recommend is substantial.

Maybe he should go with an LS1 swap instead. I think that would be cool. And AWD.

Go to the Accord FAQ and look in the Swaps section. There is a link in there for a F22B1 head swap. Click on that and read up. I believe it was done on a F22Ax engine but the required parts and setps taken are pretty much the same.

Also, you can't put a timing chain on this engine, you have to stick with the belt.

And just a FYI, you motor isn't ecatly a F22B, it's a F22B2. I know, not a big difference right, well there is a F22B motor (which is DOHC) and it can get confusing when people don't list their engine correctly or fully. The VTEC engine of that year was the F22B1 and thats the engine you want to get parts from.

You asked what makes an engine VTEC... read this...

there are a couple more links at the end of the article as well. That should give you a good understanding of VTEC.

Hey thanks for the responses everyone. Yeah I wasn't sure if that 2 on the end of F22B2 was important. Now I know. I thought VTEC was a chain? Isn't that how they do the variable timing? That's how it is on my Dad's Nissan with (Nissan's version of the VTEC). Whatever though. Thanks for the help I really do apprecaite it!
I would swap the H22 in there except, it's an automatic, so it's really not worth putting THAT much effort into it. Just the basic maitenece and some extras. HAHA!
Could I really go AWD on my Accord? That would be compltely awesome!

Did you read that link I posted above? That explains what VTEC is and how it works.

Yeah I looked into all those links, pretty helpful stuff. That link that had a step by step was pretty useful, although it would have helped to have some pictures, haha. It doesn't sound all that complicated, I just gotta make sure I'm clean about it, and have a service manual.

mnizzy, you live in Eagan? That's awesome!

Alright, I got the go ahead this summer me and my father are going to swap it in there. I just don't know where I'm going to get the parts and such. How much should I expect to pay for all this? Don't want to get a bad deal here, yet I don't want crap parts.

Depends what kind of parts you use. If you're just going to take the stock head, vtec sensors, and ECU out of a junker accord, you could probably get out of it for a few hundred bucks.

I have most of / if not all of the parts to do the swap. I would just have to pull them out of storage if you're really interested since I had to pack up everything a few month ago when I moved out.
