is there a difference between exhausts for 4th gen preludes and 5th gen?

catback fitments are based on the chassis, not the motor.

i know so why would they write in their auctions will fit h22 vtec models only?

couldnt tell yuh. Doesnt really matter tho. Any 4th gen catback can be fit to each model, whether its f22, h23 or h22.

Thanks. Just noticed the stock exaust is burnt thru and has about 5 different places welded up. Think its time for a stainless one. lol

4th and 5th not sure. but USDM vs JDM there is a difference. the JDM H22 downpipe is larger than the USDM

actually the 4th gen vtec has a different flange-it doesnt bolt right up but can be easily modified.. a reason why many exhaust makers either state "vtec only" or make a seperate model for the nonvtec models.

Cat backs there should be no difference. But if you buy one of those complete systems with header, then vtec only is correct. The h22 system will only fit the h22 and not the h23 or f22.
