My car is hunting at idle, between approximately 1k & 2k rpm. I replaced the IACV and that did not work. I also swapped out the MAP & TPS sensors with no results either. I do not think that it is a vacuum leak but I can't say positively that it isn't because i haven't checked every hose under pressure. I am also no throwing any ecu codes. Is there anything else that could be causing this problem? Thanks in advance

 

Sounds like a vacuum leak.

Telling us a bit about your car would be good too.

If the car is <96 it could be the FITV - take it off and clean it - slap it back on, see if the problem persists. That has a CEL, but it doesn't always come on when it's malfunctioning. I'd still put money on a vacuum leak.

 

cover the holes in the TB to the iacv and ftiv and tell us what happens, do one and then the other then both.

 

94 with turbo kit. problem started approximately a month ago. Turbo kit has been on car for over 1 year no problems. Whats the FTIV? The iacv has been cleaned and replaced and is not the problem.

 

FITV is the Fast Idle Valve under the TB. It has 2 hose connections to it.

For a GS-R for example that thing is right under the TB.

Sounds like you got a a leak somewhere man.

check all vacuum lines carefully

listen for hissing at intke manifold- cylinder head or manifold- tb.

 

Maybe your throttle body gasket is done. It happen to me once. Clean the iacv and ftiv and still no luke. So I took the throttle body off and found the gasket rip. Replace that and everthing was fine.

 

Your car should have a fitv (fast idle thermal valve. This will be a little harder to do with a turbo on the car. warm the car up and remove the intake at the TB if you look in the TB you should see to holes. When you put your finger over the bottom hole you should not feel any vacuum there if you do, then the fitv needs cleaned/ or replaced. The fitv allows more air into the intake when cold, once it warms up that valve will close.

 

try messing with the screw on the tb.

 

it hunts all the time, regardless of engine temp. I think it's a vaccuum leak but i checked everything, can't find it honestly. I'll try again this weekend i guess.

it will tell you if its your fitv/iacv or if you have a vacuum leak, great place to start.

PS. bleed your coolant too.

 

it does go up and down, that's want hunting is. Haven't had time to do it yet, i'll look at it this weekend and get back to you guys with an update

 

Took off the FITV and that was the problem. The cup part of the assembly on the inside was unthreaded and sitting loose in the housing. It was bopping around, giving the hunting by blocking the airflow then allowing it passed. Tightening it back in it's socket fixed the problem. Of course a day after fixing it something else went wrong with the car and it's now parked. I have to look at it this weekend again.
