what are the signs of a head gasket going out and what are the signs for piston rings going bad? recently i noticed ive been burning oil not alot just enough for my bumper to become straight black. ive checked my oil stick and it its above the 2 dots still, and after a recent oil change and about 2 days of driving it has become almost black but still above the 2 dots. either way i know im going to ahve to take off the head but i jsut wanted to know if its my head gasket or piston ring so i can go get it before hand thanks

ps forgot to add when i changed my oil i noticed inside the oil cap there was a peanut butter like substance and inside my coolant resivour i noticed it was kind of a creamy color not the normal

 

coolant resivour with creamy color= oil in water????don't know...you got exhaust with white smoke??or smell like coolant?

 

im not getting any sweet smells i.e coolant burning but i now after wiping down my back bumper and driving around theres a noticable black substance on it and im assuming dats oil but i jsut wat to know it its becasue of my head gasket or is it a piston ring thanks

 

if your oil is turning black really fast it could be that you getting a lot of blow. you might be running to rich. what car and motor do you have?

 

Head gasket = ice cream.
