Default ABS Working Like Crap. Anyone Else?

My ABS in my 01 Civic EX is working like crap. I hit teh brakes in the snow and it just slides. It Locks in, slides 3 feet, unlocks, rotates half a turn, locks, repeat.

It is terrible. Its bad in both rain and snow. Dry pavement too, I get it to lock in on a dry road, it locks, skids, unlocks, rotates, repeat.

Does anyone have similar problems with their EXes and if not, what can this be?

My ABS light never cames on, Honda charges $110 for a diag.

nothing is gunna stop well in snow.

But for the 2nd part, u pretty much describes what it does. Locks, unlocks, rotates, and repeats.

Thats EXACTLY wat anti lock does.

IMO, learn to brake urself. I personally HATE anti lock brakes, they are only good u are completely caught off gaurd and u mash the brakes without even thinking.

I always find pulsing my brakes + downshifting > anti lock anyday

I've found the ABS to be over-cautious, ever since I stiffened up the suspension. I know why, as well. It's because my tires don't maintain 100% connection with the road, and that's when the ABS goes berserk. I'm looking into upgrading the ABS system to be a little less cautious, so as to allow a little bit of fluctuation in tire grip.

I have very sucky tires, I can peal out in 2nd in rain. And my anti lock brakes work incredibly. One wet day I was coming down a hill about 35 or so trying to make a light and it changed on me. I hit the brakes hard and I stoped in the rain on sucky tires in about 20-25 feet on a downhill. Also whenever I leave my father in laws house, he has a steep mud drive way, and there are days I don't think I could make it down without my ABS. It sounds kind of loud when it works, but it works very well for me.

no no no no

Its not supposed to do that.

I mean when I hit the brake the car slides for like 15 ****** feet man. That aint right. My friends work car, a VW Beetle just ****** stops. His RSX type s stops in HALF the distance of the beetle and my car just ****** slides, it is not right.

And when I mean it locks in, rotates, unlocks. I mean it locks in, skids for 3 feet, unlocks, pretty much stops brackng, rotates about 5 feet before locking up again and coming to a stop locked up the last 2 feet.

I can't say as i've ever had any complaints at all with my ABS, in fact it's been pretty damn good to be truthful. It isn't over-sensitive and has served me well on the few occaisions i've needed it.

I agree with Vantage up to a point, that it's better to meter out the braking force and pair it with downshifts and throttle blips, and in actual fact you should hardly EVER need to call on the ABS ( i think mine's only been needed about 3 times in 6 months)...

...but it's always nice to know it's there if, like he says, you're caught unaware by some idiot pulling out on you or something similar.
