I have a question? Are honda's temperature guage needle dampered. I have a 1997 honda accord and everday no mater what the needle is in the samp spot. I can here the fans coming on and off but no movement at all. I am very curious because most other cars I have the needle would make movements with the coolant temp.

 

If the needle starts at the cold side when you first start the engine cold, I don't think anything is wrong with it. After the engine warms up, the needle should stay just under half way, and not move much at all.

 

yep as long as it's about 2/3rd's the way to the halfway mark you are fine, I can't say mine moves anything noticeable when I'm driving either

 

Hate to hijack the thread but what if the temp guage starts cold then moves up once the car warms up then goes back to cold once i turn the heat on even though i know the engine is warm? If I put the car in park, the engine will surge going from 1250 rpms to like 2250 rpms up and down. I have no trouble codes either.
