changing tranny fluid
i searched but nothin came up with the ways i used. so here is the thing. i know this was kinda covered a lil while back when the thread for the new honda mtf came out, however, not to this detail. so i think that i need to change my fluid n ive never done the tranny fluid myslf. my friend says that its not like changing oil where u drain it and put the new stuff in. he said that it needs to be injected in. and that it doesnt use tranny fluid it runs on oil. can any1 enlighten me on this matter? its an h22a mated to an h23 tranny

the fill bolt is on the left side of the passenger side axle... i use a little hand pump the pump it into the hole. Just wait till it starts coming outta the hole thats when u know its full. Some people fill it through the breather tube on the top but ive never done it.
You can let gravity do the work, also. Get a tube, garden hose size, and run it to the fill hole from the engine bay. You can use a funnel, and just pour the MTF in from the engine bay. After you get a quart in, go slow. When it starts coming out at the fill hole, you're done.
Make sure you have enough room around the hose where you put it in the fill hole. If you don't have room for air to get out, you won't be able to fill it all the way up.

ive gone to every parts store in my area...autozone, pep boys, advance auto, aid auto...none of them carry the honda mtf. do u have to get this from the honda dealership?
edit: after reading the owners manual it says to use 10w30 or 10w40 oil. i know that theres a bunch of people using the honda mtf from the thread that was on here maybe a month ago. whats the better thing to do, im torn

try and find honda mtf for sure. any squirt bottle will work to get the fluid in the tranny.
it shouldnt be more than 4 dollars a quart from the stealership. id buy 2 qts.
also its good to have the car level when its jacked up. when the front is only jacked up you dont get a full fill. so jack both ends up equal height.
that should do it.

Yupp get the Honda mtf from the dealership parts dept. Ive done it a few ways, and the easiest for me has been to drain it as usual, have the fill plug open, and use a small tip funnel from a gear oil bottle on the mtf bottle, pour it slowly in the breather hole until it flows out the fill plug hole. then cap both and enjoy smoother shifting, quieter gears. And yeah try to have the car as level as possible for a good fill.

so i went to the honda dealership n asked i saw the old stuff on the shelf. i asked if they had the new stuff n he didnt know wut i was talkin about. he opened up a new box that he said they had just recieved a few days ago and it was still the old stuff. so he called acura which is a mile down the road n asked if they had the new stuff, which they did, and asked wut the deal was. idk wut was said over the phone but the honda guy wrote down some part numbers and said ok ill have to order the new stuff next time. the honda guy tells me that acura has it and thanks for informing him about the new stuff. i left kinda laughin n head shaking. u would think that the dealerships would be on top of things like this no? it took honda-tech for honda to find out threw me
the filler bolt thats on there is pretty ******* strong...and in some cases torqued to all hell
when i first did it (many years ago) i snapped my 3.8" ratchet (i actually twisted the metal and it cracked)...and wondered if it was really the right bolt
well it was, i just went back in there with a 1/2" craftsman...did the job fine
just an FYI if you run into this problem

hey whats up. my trans has over 150 miles on it. would it help any to change it? i ask becuz i'm bout to put in a stage 2 fidanza clutch. so should i change it or leave it be? anotha question i have would it better to use an synthetic base oil or use the Honda trans fluid. by the way its an H23 trans, 5spd.
You have 150 miles on the transmission? I doubt you need to change the fluid after every 150 miles...that would suck. If you meant 150k...yes, I would definitely change it at least every 150k you run
sorry for the mistake i meant to write i have 150k on the trans. should i change it now or leave it be? also what about the fluid...should i stick to the honda fluid or go with some synthetic mobil 1?

I think there is a breather up top so there should be no problem.
