You can just put a smaller tire on than your supposed to. That's what all the ballas do.

Sigh. I had this long flame all prepped up for you but sacrificed it just for the fact that I feel a little bad for you.

A) it's spelled "stretch"
B) you don't add an apostrophe and then an S on a word that already ends in an S (BBS')
C) again, spelled stretched
D) expensive
E) there
F) "is there a lip that holds the inner tire?"
G) go to http://www.vwvortex.com and check out the stickey's they have in the wheel forum or hell, any VW model forum there.

I do tires for a living and it is not safe to stretch a tire it will seperate and blow out.

If you have a 15 inch wheel you need a 15 inch tire. The only thing you can mess with is width and tire profile size

you probably just see it on bbs wheels because its what all the eurotards do with their vdubs. ive had to mount up stuff like this, pain in the ***. just super skinny tires on wide rims.

only for show and it you hit a pothole hard enough your tires are most likely to fall off the bead.

I never understood this trend. If you have a 7" 8" or 9" rim why would you not want to take full advantage of that and run the widest tire possible?

This is one of those dumb things that people see overseas tuners doing and think is cool.

The reason this is done in Germany is that the law there requires that the tread all be within the fenders. These guys want to put on hugely wide wheels, so they mount too-narrow tires.

If these tuners in Germany wouldn't run into trouble with the law for having correctly-sized tires on their 10" wide wheels, this "trend" would have never started.

It looks dumb, it isn't particularly safe, and it sure as hell won't improve handling. On top of that, the air pressure required to get these tires into the bead when stretched typically exceeds the maximum allowed by the manufacturer.

Pointless, stupid looking, and unsafe.

Might as well get a domestic 4 banger and turn into a vato mobile with some 13 inch daytons and curb feelers too.

Since we're nitpicking, you don't add an apostrophe at all for pluralization. Everyone with a 5th grade education knows that apostrophes are for contractions and possession, and since we're not talking about BBS' factory in Germany, or BBS' employee pension program, we should pluralize it the proper way, which is BBSs. However, most writers would find BBSs to be a bit noxious to the reader, so they would opt for a more elegant pluralization solution, such as "BBS wheels." I can't believe you didn't know any of that. Pshaw's.

oh, i should also add something relevant to the thread. i believe the reason for the stretching has less to do with German law and more to do with getting the widest lip possible while still being able to tuck the wheel.
