Default Question about box behind taillight...

I got some black and red taillights for Christmas for my car and recently put them on. When I was doing the body mounted lights on the drivers side, I came across a box with wires going to it, mounted to the light housing itself. I left it unplugged to see what it did and it is the controls for the brake lights I am assuming. Anyways, my lights I got didn't have a spot for it so I eletrical taped it up really good and stuck it back inside the panel there free from water and moisture. Has anybody else noticed this and is it ok that I did it this way?

P.S. Please don't flame me for my taillights. They were a Christmas present and I actually like them. I am 20 years old and I'm sure everyone else on here is older so please act like the adults you are

no not the tail lights/ don't care about that p/n LOL...The box that was already in there that you are asking the question about.
If you plugged it all back in and have it where it can't get damaged, and every thing is working; Good on you man.
The reason I asked if the 'mystery' box had a part number on it was because I would have gone and done a cross reference look up for you.
