Finally got my own
ok couple of days ago i picked up a 1988 civic LX from my cousin for free (he owed me $100 bucks) it has 91,000 miles on it, almost no rust (i love Texas cars). engine was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago. the stereo was stolen out of it. i don't even have speakers any more. glove box was ripped out for some reason and the carpet is crap. other then that the interior is good. the guy who had it before me paint the valve cover yellow and had yellow wire cover on it which i removed before i even started the car. well heres the pics

the engine bay

the only rust on the whole car

Potentially. The airbox beside the battery contains the air filter. If your throttle body isn't connected to that box by the intake tube, your engine is sucking in unfiltered air.

No. It prevents your engine from damage by sucking in particulate matter or water through the throttle body.

You don't need the resonator box (is that what you meant by the baffle?) or snorkel. You do need an air filter.

can i just put one on in the tube where it would have conected to the box or do i need the box and then put the air filter in cause i think you can just put the air filter in ther tube without box

You can do that if you use the proper filter. You have to make sure you get a good seal between the intake tube and the filter outlet. You also want to make sure it clears the battery.

ok one more quetionunder the pgm-fi cape theres a metal mesh guard and under that guard theres a cap that can be un screwed but theres a small hole in it where i think air gets in it now if i take that cap of can could i increase horsepower by letting more air get in or will it hurt it???

I wouldn't mess around with that. Any potential gains would not be worth your time. Modifying the dual-point fuel injection system is useless.
For real gains, you'll want to do a multi-point fuel injection conversion. This will bump you up immediately at least 10hp with the stock engine, and is required for just about any engine swap you may want to do in the future.

well anyways instead of making a new topic. might as well add on here. there is a gap between my hood and my front bumper was there something there before. if so what does it look like and where can i get it. i noticed SI don't have that gap.
