ipod and 07 Si,stupid questions
Ok,I got a 07 Si that has the AUX jack.I collect a lot of hard to find Black/Death metal CD's,and I don't want them scratched.I am real stupid to this ipod or mp3 player stuff. So,I guess I could use my pc to put my CDs into mp3 or whatever? How is the sound with an ipod or mp3?What is the difference between an ipod and just a normal mp3 player?
Yes, you can rip your CD's to MP3 and transfer them to your iPod or MP3 player. If you rip them at a good bitrate, they'll sound just as good as your CD.
iPods & MP3 players are generally the same, just some have higher capacities (you can fit more songs).

as previously stated you rip your CD's using I-tunes which is a program you will recieve with your ipod.
I recomend ipods over other player for size and user friendly controles.
But to answer your question about Sound Quality (SQ) the SQ will not be as good as cd if your using the headphone jack and the AUX input. it wont be bad, and you will most likely not notice the difference, but mp3's compress the song to save space and in doing so you loose some SQ. but in metal music since there are lots of patterns in the music you will be safe (patterns is how MP3 programs compress music)
MP3 players FTW who needs to change CD's anymore

Not true. Ever heard of apple lossless?

yes, and it sounds amazing off of your computer with an un amplified signal going to an amplfier running your speakers....like i said, in a car it doesnt make much difference especially while driving down the highway. But if you were to take an mp3 soundtrack and play it side by side with a cd (in true cd quality) on a high end audio system you would notice the difference.
there isnt anthing wrong with using the headphone jack and AUX input i did it for the longest time. just keep the ipod volume below half and you will be happy

I beg to differ, some of us have high end audio and video systems in our cars
I'm getting a little off topic though so I'll stop. For a stock system, just make just you rip your mp3's at a good quality level and you'll be happy.

Curious why you say half. I run mine @ 75-90% depending on how much volume I want.

I just say 50% from personal expierence, i find i get the best compramise between volume and SQ but that all depends on the person listning and probably on the type of music.

If the ipod is connected to your head unit using the BOTTOM connector, you will have a better, cleaner signal than from the headphone jack, but its still an analog signal, and not digital... unless you use this:

This unit was designed with Apple and offers (available) true digital sound from your ipod. No CD slot though.

not true the connection on the bottom of the ipod is digital no matter what. and on that model it has a DAC (DIGITAL to ANOALOG CONVERTER) from what i under stand it converts the digital ipod signal to an analog signal.
what this means for SQ im not sure, just interpreting what i read.
acctuly now that i read it again im unsure of what it means, it says the DAC but in another it talks about a digital proccesor.
just throwing this out there..
