Default Insurance trying not to pay out for my stolen car, please help!

Insurance trying not to pay out for my stolen car, please help!

My Integra was stolen and stripped. Had about $1000+ in modifications, I have receipts. Also have comprehensive car insurance with AAA. However my insurance is not will to pay me back for the modifications, and aftermarket parts, and basically will only give me the market value of a stock Acura Integra. Their justification is that, the aftermarket parts do not add value to the car.

Is there anything I can do, please help. I will be taking a huge lost if I only get the market value and not have any of the parts I paid for reimbursed. also, is there anything else i should be aware of or do, such as decline their first offer? get a lawyer?

please help, thank you.

in order for you to get your money back on the aftermarket value is that when you had your car, anything you add on your car (aftermarket parts) you should or were supposed to update your insurance by giving them proof for your aftermarket parts (i.e. giving them the reciept, taking a picture of it on your car etc..etc..)

At least that is what was supposed to happen. I also heard from some other members here that you can wait out for another offer from them.

Just read around or search some more. But yeah definetely that aftermarket parts are a bitch dealing with insurance.

Good luck man. update us.

They shouldnt pay for additional parts unless you had an addendum to your policy. They quote and write the policy for a $3000 car (and you pay for coverage on that) and then you claim to have $20k in mods.....you were only paying for coverage on the value of the car unless you had an addition to the policy (which you would pay extra for). I mean....why should they pay for parts you added when you werent paying for those parts to be insured? Be glad it was only 1k worth of parts and not a $5000 paint job.

and that about sums it up. gotta make sure to tell insurance ahead of time about aftermarket parts, so you can pay to cover them.

Many insurance companies will pay extra for aftermarket parts. Not dollar for dollar, though; they will depreciate them based on how long you've had them on, etc. It may depend on the company.

However, $1000 in aftermarket parts is not much. They probably add little or nothing to the market value of your car - at most a few hundred bucks, and probably not even that. It's really not worth worrying about, as long as they are offering you what your car is worth (without taking the mods into account). If their offer is fair, just take it.

In the future, when you're buying mods, remember that that money is basically spent, i.e. you will never see it again. You won't usually get more for the mods when you sell the car, and you won't usually get more from insurance in cases like these. If the mods increase your enjoyment enough to be worth the expense, then buy them - but don't expect to ever get anything back from them.

A lawyer, LOL! A lawyer will cost you that $1000 (and maybe more) just to take your case...

1k in mods is nothing but I understand it's money that you spent nonetheless. It seems that an insurance company will screw you but keep in mind they are going by stock parts but dealer prices.

Example: I had a car stolen, stipped and then they went to estimate it. I tried to argue parts, ITR interior etc. The adjuster said "Look, I'll take care of you. Your aftermarket Alpine for instance is what $350 or more?" I said "Yeah thats about right" He replied "Well I'm estimating a stock Acura player that costs $900."

In the long run if you let them do their job and then argue cost and details later you'll win out. See if they can let you cash out. If you owned the car the check goes to you, if not.. well then you'll hafta deal with your bank as well.

Generally mods are not covered. Wheels yes, stereo yes, engine and interior insurance companies don't have a specific category for that. Good luck-

I'm pretty sure most companies will not pay for aftermarket parts, unless you get the car appraised with all the parts on. However, then you will pay a bit more on insurance.

it's funny that new oem parts will usually cost more than aftermarket parts. after my accident (not my fault), the body shop that did the estimate put new oem headlights at $500 a piece, even though i had the aftermarket angel eyes that cost less than $200 for the set. also, a new itr lip was $400 from the dealer, even though i bought the lip used for $100. the lip wasn't even damaged that bad and i ended up fixing it and reusing it. a new front bumper was quoted at $350, which is enough to buy an aftermarket one if you wanted to.
