Aftermarket Catalytic Converter? Dealership Charging $2k to replace....
My mother has an 02 Type S. Check engine light would stay on for a bit then go off. Dealership is saying that the catalytic converter is bad. No problem thats what she got the extended bumper to bumper warrenty for. Well the acura dealership is trying to tell us its not covered under warrenty and that the catalytic converter costs $1600 just for the part and another $400 to put in. I thought that was pretty funny joke but they were being serious. Anyways, does anyone have acura warrenty knowledge OR know a place to get aftermarket converters under say.. the normal $100...
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

That is rediculous. You can buy a whole k20a2 swap used now for almost that price. They are trying to rip you off big time.
im not sure how it works in new york but in cali, it is mandated that the catalytic converter is under warranty for a certain amount of time...
im pretty sure its more the 4 years tho...
i believe its 5 years 100k

If its the acura care warranty then it should be covered. You need to seek the specifics of your warranty coverage and if possibly look up a number for Honda of America and make a claim. Our dealer will warranty anything but if the car is stock and you do have the correct factory warranty extension and not the Acura Certified warranty, then it should be covered.

When I tell customers that, they nearly **** themselves. In fact....845?...I probably gave you that price
And people bitch about Mugen's price on their exmani. It has the same type of cat, but freer flowing. It's not the cheapy bullshit cats that breakdown in a short time.
What makes the dealer say the cat is bad? How did they diagnose that it was bad?

po420 i presume
catalytic efficiency below threshold bank 1 sensor 1
BTW try http://www.convertergeeks.com
in my opinion if it is 8 yrs or less than 100k you should still have warranty
more than likely car is out of mileage warranty

It's not that they're trying to rip you off, it really does cost our dealerships that much for the part. BUT, HONDA'S come with an UNQUESTIONABLE factory warranty of 80K miles unless it's been obviously harmed (Punched out).
There's no reason they should deny a new one free of charge.
