First off, let me explain why this is an open poll like this, it's simply so that anybody with any other brands and such can vote w/o posting or back up another vote.
Yeah, so I was thinking about getting this FM transmitter for my iPod. It's made by a pretty reputable company and is the same price on amazon, crutchfield, and the manufactuer's website (belkin). I like it because it's versatile in the fact that if your iPod has a charge all it does is connect to the firewire port and have no wires - BUT if your iPod is low on batteries, you can just throw it in the DC charger. Also, it'll work in any car with an FM Radio (hopefully).
I think it's better opposed to ones that require it to be plugged in 24/7 as no wires is better than 1 wire. Though as a necessity, the power cord comes in handy with this one.
I was GOING TO go with a docking box that plugs into the back of my head unit and charges the iPod, then enables you to switch songs, playlists, etc. right through the head unit...which is great, but it only works with select sony's (and would only work in my car) and at the rate I go through cars or have to take somebody else's car, I just don't see any good coming from that in terms of versatility.
Now my roommate told me b4 he left (like 5 mins ago) that he had a griffin transmitter for his iPod and that it kicked ***, and he has one for his Zune which he says SUCKED ***. I didn't know FM transmitters could be "bad" or "good" - I thought an FM transmitter was an FM transmitter... Though he said you had to find a station that's like DEAD or else it doesn't work too well, but with the iPod one he said it's ownage.
Unfortunately there's NO user feedback on this model.
I was just wondering what you all think, I'm sure there's plenty of pple here with FM Transmitters and iPods. I am currently using a double sided audio wire that plugs into the "audio in" on my face plate..which is great 'n all, can't get any more direct than that, but obviously it's limited in the fact that A) it requires a wire, and B) it doesn't offer a charge.
Yeah so any feedback about anything, experiences, whatever would be great.
$50.00 is about as much as I'm willing to spend on that, I do believe I can get a good one for that. I don't need any docking stations or any of that other i-ride crap pieces or whatever.
Any input is thanks.
Sorry for the long post.

yeah fm transmitters are a hit or miss
if they can't give out a strong enough signal, your going to get static with every song.
If your sticking with apple as your PMP, then you have alot of options, including ones that can get power through your cigarette lighter, and then charge and transmit through the ipod docking connector.
i would do a search on other models that give good signal quality...
a cheaper alternative, esp if you already have an after market head, is use the aux port, it doesn't charge, or let you control the ipod, but it does the job in sound quality.
problem with those, is that the ipod doesn't provide a line level out, unless you can find a line level out adapter for the it,

its not that there hit or miss, given there are some really cheap ones out there, but there price reflects there quality in most cases.
the reason FM transmiters will never sound as good as a direct connection (the dock conector hooked up the head unit) is because the signale you get out of the headphone jack is amplfied, and the built in amplfier in the ipod is inferior to anything you will hook it upto. so if your into SQ get a HU that is ipod ready. if your just into functionality by all means get the fm transmiter. i had one for a while, sounded alright wasnt bad, but im much happier with the direct conection.

I bought a Belkin FM transmitter ($80 circuit city) Opened and tested it outside their parking lot. Few mins later, I Asked for a full refund. All I heard was static. I went for the most expensive fm transmitter and it was garbage.

i bought the DLO transPOD http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...52644 for $100 bucks, did the same thing you did. i figured since it got its sgnal from the dock conector (un amplfied) that it would sound good, it did, but than i started driving......alternator noise
tried it in my dads volvo same problem, moms excursion no luck. i gave up on FM transmiters. save your money and get a direct conection, if you get a head unit that controles the ipod like most alpines you can stow the ipod in the glove box. no wires than
