Piece on Gauge Cluster What is it?

There is a push button like thing on my gauge cluster that is to the bottom left of my speedometer. Its not the tripmeter reset thats on the other side. Anybody know what it is? My Car is a 96 Civic EX

Maintenance reminder reset. There's a little green box, and when maintenance reminder pops after so many miles it turns red.

so do i need it? i was trying to fit in a ctr trim in my cluster but dont want to cut into it. so is there a way i can remove? or bad idea?

Yeah, just cut it off. People have done it.

Buzzbomb cut a hole for it.
