Ls/vtec
Planning on making at least 200 whp, i am building an ls/vtec 90 b18a block, 1st gen b16 head ctr pistons, skunk2 valves, retainers, and springs, megan header, skunk IM, block guard, girdle is it possible for me to make this kind of power with this set up in an 88 crx Hf. And wanted some suggestions on who to tune with.Thanks

i am basically runnin the same setup in my eg coupe except i have a stock gen 1 b16 head that has been milled. i have no probs out of the ctr pistions and i run 93 octane pump gas. plus i am on hondata s200 also

well i guess ill keep reading up, cause some people say its to much compresssion, and not a practical set-up, and some people say the opposite, nice set-up will do good

dude, i am runnin 12.4:1. the only thing i havee a prob with is my mpg.

u will be fine as long u can get at least 93 octane fuel and good management

ctr pistons will give you too much compression. There are quite of few reputable engine builders on here that reccomend staying under 12:1 for reliabilities sake. Just because you cant hear detonation, doesnt mean its not happening inside your engine. Sure it might last 2-3 years, or it might last you 6 months. Again, this has been stated by people with more experience in honda's and engine building than me, groundzero, or you combined- learn from their knowledge/mistakes, keep it under 12:1. Besides the high CR that ctr(pct) pistons give, they are heavier than an itr (p72,p73) or b16 (p30, pr3) pistons. This also is obviously less desirable. Plenty of folks on here have made very good numbers on itr and b16 pistons, and they will work well for you. Again though, search- these builds have been covered over and over, if you dont search - you end up limiting your knowledge/answers to one or 2 opinions in alot of cases(even this thread?) If those one or 2 opinions are wrong, but all you have to go on- it could mean trouble for your engine build.

focus on suspension and driver skills first. you can have 500whp and not break 12's if you dont know what you're doing.

i completely understand where u r comin from......i did my research b4 i had put my block in the machine shop. as far as reputable engine builders, i contacted an east coast reputable Honda builder which was Inline Pro out of Springfield Va........they had told me that i would be fine runnin CTR pistons in my setup as long i got a good tune(which i did).......guess what i am tryin to say is that i DON'T race my car every weekend and the drag strip. i didn't want to build a race car, i wanted something that i could screw round on the street with and still have a reliable daily driver.

stock b16......my tuner stated i have room to grow....i could upgrade cams along with springs and retainers and cam gears....but i think all i will do is the adj. cam gears and maybe spring & retainers
