Hooking iPod to car stereo using Auxiliary jacks?
I need to know how this works exactly. the back of my sony cd player has Audio in jacks separately for F/R. It also has another set of jacks called BUS Audio In. I assume I am to plug the iPod Aux. jacks into the Bus jacks. But then, how do I get my cd player to recognize it? The faceplate on the cd player says "XM ready" and MD/CD changer control. I cannot figure out how to get it to go to the XM player or however it would do that. Can anyone offer help? I can get the model of the cd player if needed.
TIA!

For starters, the front/rear are pre-amp outputs not inputs. The bus audio inputs sound like something different altogether.
I'm not familiar with newer sony stuff, but with their older stuff you had to trick the hu by adding a changer through the changer port and then using the rca's inputs for your mp3 player. Not sure whether your unit is like that or not.
The other option is that there is a menu setting to turn on the aux-in.

Alright. Let me rephrase. Your deck should recognize it.
I can't find a pic of the rear of the unit, but if it's got RCA's labeled F and R, as stated above, those are not inputs.
You need to be using an aux input adapter that plugs into the square-ish IP bus plug, and then you plug your iPod into that via a cable.
If you're doing that, and it's not working, maybe it needs to "see" a signal from the iPod before it switches? Press play on the iPod and then try to switch the source. Does it find it then?
Exactly what adapter are you using?

this link has a picture of the back of it. Is there a special adapter I need? I was just trying to use auxiliary jacks that I used for my home stereo.
Click on "installation/connection instructions" pic is at the top, just zoom in. Thanks!

Ohhh... You've got one of those Sony's...
Not a big deal though... The BUS Audio In jacks only turn on when there's a source plugged into the round BUS connector.
You just need one of these:

Plug that in, then your deck will switch to the Changer Port when you press the Source button.
When you first posted, I just assumed that you had a "normal" deck... Like on my Kenwood, there's a plug that goes into the Changer port and there's Female RCA's that come out that you can plug your MP3 into.
I just forgot that Sony was weird back when your deck came out.

yea this deck came in my jeep when I got it. Got the jeep for $500 and the guy wa slike "IT"S GOT A $300 CD PLAYER IN IT!" I hate sony cd players, but this one hasnt given up on me yet. The cd player I had in my crx was a very nice pioneer and was stolen, so I wont be putting a nice cd player in there again for quite some time.
Thanks for the help!

See if your head unit has an auxilary input. My Pioneer does. You can buy a cable that will plug into that and can be wired up to charge your Ipod. The sound quality is a lot better than just plugging in some rca jacks to an aux. input because its all digital signal.

Did you actually read what's written above???

Wasn't the bus in only for XM satellite radio? Don't hold me to it but thats what it was IIRC. You could buy another sony for about 70-100 bucks with a aux in the front if that doesn't work out.
haha, I would simply buy a newer model cd player, but the moron that put this stereo in, cut the harness instead of spending an extra $5 for the damn adapter harness. No more original plugs for me
So, until this one ***** out...and it will...sony can blow me, I think I'm gonna do the BUS trick.
