Get 1/2" tools and a bigger breaker bar.

You should have no prob with a nice 2' breaker bar. At least mine came out fine, i used a 1/2" drive 2' craftsman breaker bar. Work your way from the outside in, and loosen each bolt a 1/4 turn at a time or you could warp the head.

Use a quick impulse motion to break the bolt, not a smooth gradual one. I just use a 3' cheater pipe.

If the head is badly warped, that could cause removal problems.

My first motor did something similar.

Bit thick steel cheater pipe, around 3'. Impact-grade 14mm socket. Muscle.

Or my IR impact wrench.

NEVER remove head bolts with an impact.

If you guys can't get head bolts out, do you really think you're ready to work on an engine?

Just use a breaker bar, and follow the procedure in the Helms to prevent any damage to the head or the block.

You know I've heard that before, and believe it. But I've impacted off all my heads on my personal motors and haven't had any ill effects yet.

Not recommending it, just sayin

if i could do it with a normal craftsman 1/2" ratchet, then you just need to step yo game up.

not to mention the engine was sitting on a pallet

yeah i got this special socket for rounded off heads, it digs into the bolt and the harder you pull the tighter it grabs onto the bolt head...... needless to say those basterd where a breeze to get off with that on my side.

how did the bolts get rounded off? were you trying to use a standard socket first or something?

i have seen the head bolts round several times, usually on F series heads though. never had it happen myself, but I was in the shop when it did. then the special socket for rounded head bolts failed pretty badly when the teeth were ground off. then out came the drill....and that was fun helping the other mechanic drill the head of the bolt off...

i'm glad that socket worked, because i was starting to get the freak out point and planning for the worst.

you know of anywhere i could get the new bolts, i checked autozone and places like that and they said it was a dealer only item and i know the dealer with rip me off

buy ARP/AEBS stuff. It's stronger and you can use it multiple times.
