Default axle installation

ok so im putting new axles on my car and i got the driverside into the intermediate shaft without a problem. I then went to the passenger side and tried getting that one in and of course i couldnt get it to seat all the way, it had about 1/2 left to go. I pushed as hard as i could and still nothing. I looked into the trans to see if anything would hang up the axle but still nothing. Anyone got any ideas on how to get it to go in all the way? Thanks

it shouldn't be that hard. Try and slide it out and slide it in hard. Are you sure you have the snap ring on the end of it and everything?

ive tried taking it in and out a couple times. the ring is on it just gets to a certain spot and i cant push it in any farther. It would also help if i did this in my garage and it wasnt snowing out but any other ideas?

this may be a stupid question but are you sure that you have the right axle..and did you make sure they are lined up with the grooves...i mean its crazy but it happens bc it should slide right in.

You need to make sure its pointing straight in with the tranny, if you try to install it crooked it will not go in.

will your original axle still slide in all the way? If so I would try another axle

try it with the open end of the clip facing down. that way there is less clip to catch inside the tranny.

say this is the clip--- C ---- but rotate that 90 degrees clockwise. i have had mine catch the clip on the grooves of the tranny

well its also a new tranny...ive compared axles old axles and new and they are exactly the same. Ive looked inside the transmission and there is nothing that it should get hung up on. Ive also looked to make sure that the part of the axle that goes inside the tranny isnt to long.

yeah i gave up and asked everyone on here, went back to my garage and it went back in. the thing i thought was weird was it was my third axle swap, and i had no problems with the first 2. i thought something was broken.

yea at first i thought it was the wrong axle but i compared it to the old one and it was the same. Then i thought something was in the differential. I guess if other people have had problems then its just a matter of pushing harder.

take a small 2x4 piece, have one person hold the axel have another person hold and hit the 2x4 with a small sledge very gently, or a rubber dead blow hammer puts axels back in no time, u have to compress all the cv joints before you hit it- try it works

Coating the splines with MTF (or ATF on an SH) helps keep it from binding during re-installation. Jacking up the knuckle to line up the axle helps it from kinking as well.

You're halfway on, the the splines are matched, you're just binding from a kinked angle. If you get it on halfway again, tap the bottom of the joint with a rubber mallet to un-bind it or apply a constant upward pressure on it from underneath while someone pushes it in.

yep as said above keep the shaft straight as possible and it shoudl slide in. If not keep it lined up and tap with a block of wood and hammer and it shoudl tap right in

well i got it in... i had to turn the crank like half of a turn and then it went right in. I dont get why that would be. If no axles were in the tranny and i look threw the holes where the axles go in should it be a direct sight all the way threw to the other side? In my tranny i have almost like a bar going threw the middle of the holes parallel to the groud but when i was turning the crank it was rotating a little. It that suppose to be there?

what is that thing...and also the passenger side axle doesnt sit flush agianst the tranny. It snapped in but there is prolly like a 1/8 inch gap . does it need to be pushed in even farther?
