Unidentified Purple Wire (or violet if you prefer) 1998 Civic EX 4dr
I removed the security/remote start system that was installed by the dealership back when the car was new - I don't have a remote for it.
In doing so I've noticed a purple wire located in the driver's kick panel and it seems to go up towards the dash along the left and towards the back.
Does anyone know what this wire goes to? I can't see where it connects. It was connected to a red wire from the security unit (no wiring diagrams for it) and I'm not even sure if the purple wire is a factory wire or not. I will try to add pics when I can. Not sure where it ends up and sorry if the pic isn't the best. It's about 10 degrees and I don't have a garage.

Well, not sure about other brands, but on DEI alarms/starters, the Red/White is usually used for an aux channel, like trunk pop. The purple wire was probably scrap wire used to extend the Red/White up to wherever he tapped into.
There's really no way to tell what it does for sure without seeing what color the wire is that it attaches to or without tracing it all the way to its end.
Actually, looking closer, I see the purple/white and gray wires going through the firewall (tach and hoodpin wires), so that would lead me to believe that it was a DEI unit, so that red/white would definitely be the channel 2 output for something.
Also, if you had posted this in the Audio/Video/Security forum, you probably would have had your answer yesterday..

One more thing... If the starter is no longer there, I would find where that tach wire attaches (thin purple/white) and remove it. It's probably tapped into the tach connector near the brake booster, but if they went to the coil or an injector, that could cause problems if it were to ground out somehow...
Just follow that wire from the firewall to wherever it connects, remove and insulate the wire it was tapped into.
Edited to add: Looks like the parking light output wire (white) is hanging out in there too... You should remove that for the same reason as above...
Since you said that you removed the remote starter, chances are there are other wires that you left hanging... You need to remove the entire wire, not just cut where it's convenient...
