Default y8 tranny.. 2nd gear pops out

Can anyone tell me why my 2nd gear pops out? I dont see why my syncros would be bad because i never grind my gears. Just out of no where, my second gear just started popping out while driving and has gotten worse. Do you guys think it would have anything to do with low tranny fluid? Help a brother out, thanks.

does it grind into gear? Could be your throwout bearing...

I was thinking that also, because when im decelerating, i hear some what a sound of a broken bearing. Not sure though. And no, it doesnt grind into gear.

same problem for my y8 tranny too man.

i replaced the clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing last year and still made the grining noise. i was then told it was my ISB.

and now recently my tranny pops out of second as well. i have a lower mileage y8 in the garage waiting to go in with a 7 lb. flywheel and carbon kevlar clutch.

The throw out bearing has nothing to do with it, when the car is in gear the throw out is doing nothing, it only spins when you are pushing down on the pedal....yes, you need a need tranny or a rebuild.

ya if it's completely out but if it's going out it still goes into gear..

Agreed, this doesn't sound like a TOB problem at all.

Also, to whoever said GM syncromesh as a temp fix.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by JdmEj1! &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

The OP is saying that his car is popping out of gear. As in it's completely in gear one minute, then the stick pops out into neutral. That's not a TOB problem. If anything I'd say the likelihood of it being a ISB problem is far greater than that of it being a TOB problem.

It happens because Honda transmissions are their weakpoints.

Try getting 2 new detent ***** and springs. That holds the shifter in gear. Replace that and go from there.

check your tranny upper and back, mounts and your drivers side top mount. if those are shot it will pop out upon deceleration, but never under accelleration. That made mine better but almost everyone i ask says its syncro, the only time it grinds is when im not paying attention or something and dont put the clutch all the way in during speed shifting, but other than that no grinds. Also i got pissed at the car once and ran it rhrough first, almost all the way through 2nd, then threw the bitch into first, and it hasnt popped out of 2nd since. I just had to replace AC and Alternator belt cuz they were pretty much torn to shreds, still intact though. also after doiung that the tranny now sounds like a straight cut box. like it whines louder and higherpitched ans vehicle speed increases. so if u dont mind that then try that one. not advised though but it fixed mine from popping out of 2nd.

Countershaft clutchside bearing has walked out.

you're going to have to take it apart and tap it back in. It's a common problem.

that's odd, you're wrong.

no, he doesn't, he just needs to tap the bearing back in and stake it down.

It just happens after a while. Here's a picture where I staked mine down:

It could be mounts, but most of the time it's the countershaft clutchside bearing walking out, causing the countershaft to lift away from the fork. I bet 1st gear "engages" a lot sooner with the shifter.
