Default JDM type R vs. JDM GSR

How can I tell the difference between a jdm type R and a jdm GSR engine WITHOUT TAKING OFF THE HEAD or going into the engine at all--I am speaking purely from a visible aspect ??? (besides the obvious: valve cover, intake manifold). thanx in advance.

All JDM Si/SiRs (GSRs) engine numbers start B18C 100XXXX and it should be stamped on the engine on LHS below valve cover, plus the Si/GSR distributor has two grey plugs at the rear whereas the JDM ITR has only one plug, i know this for sure as my friend with a JDM ITR bust his dizzy and thought that an Si one would do but found it wont.

Ummmm...how about PR3?

P72 motors use a dual-stage intake manifold.

JDM ITR 98 spec = PR3-4 I'm not sure about 96-97 but I know its PR3.

GSR = P72

ITR head has the radiator hose below the distributor.

GSR head has the radiator hose below the vtec solenoid.

GSR head is marked by P72

ITR head is marked by PR3

Blocks are identical minus the pistons and a few other internals.

If you dont know just go stare at each one for a while at a local shop or in a friends car, after you look at them so many times you'll know the differences... Fowler stated most of them...it's easy to tell dont stress it, but if you can, check out the pistons and make sure its says pr3 on the head! Or better yet bring someone with you who KNOWS!
