engine temp?????
i am curious on the external temp of the motor after complete warm up and driving stage. is there a specific temp that motor stays at or around? i am curious because my motor seems hotter now then before. i had a jdm tpye r motor originally and now i have a jdm B20/ type r setup. it seems like the head, IM, block and distributor are much hotter now. could this be timing, because the car runs good but i havent dynoed it yet or anything. please if someone knows an external temp of these areas let me know. THANKS!!!!!
your question is impossible to answer. if you are sure there is a clear temperature difference between that and the old motor, you might want to look into helping cool it off. as far as airflow goes, you can remove the weatherstripping seal on the winshield cowl. or space the hood up in the back to let more hot air get out. these definitely help lower under hood temps.
Different parts of the engine are going to operate at different temperatures. I have never personally checked everything with a pyrometer to see what 'normal' is. The header is going to be pretty damn hot, and the intake manifold is hopefully a bit cooler. The normal operating range for the cooling system is determined by the thermostat-most Honda/Acura t-stats open at around 190 degrees F.
no i know what you mean but i have heard when the valve cover and distributor runs really hot and gets hot very quick it is do to false ignition timing. the cars runs pretty damn good, it doesnt bogg and it doesnt backfire either, so thats why i asked this question because i was just curious.
With a digital or dial timing light you advance the numbers until the white mark lines up with the pointer-that tells you where your timing is. On a timing light with no advance you want the red mark to line up with the pointer. Timing at idle should be in the neighborhood of 16 degrees BTDC.
