Very nice...I hope my education goes far enough to get to that level of experimentation and study on an independent basis.

Cmon now...

The guy has already gone through various levels of testing, obviously that motor has run for far more than 5 minutes. Everything is machined accurately, if the tolerances are there, it'll run fine.

I'm sure the companies that helped him out did more than just give him access to their machine shop.

Air cooled man, there are 1,000 nano-scale fans distributed through out the block

Yah I would like to know as well!

Also how do they keep the crank end of the rods from rubbing together since there are 3 per journal?

Lots of engines (like V8's) have multiple rods per journal...it's not uncommon.

Thats SICK! makes me want to Join ME... My guess is that this was done by a team of classmates not just one dude... Either way it's impressive.

But if this is all done by one dude then thats just rediculous... not to mention a 10yr thesis, lol.

It could have been done by one guy, going for his Ph.Eng. In my program I believe its a 4 year thesis for that, and considering that the machining work was started 6 months after the proposal it seems doable. There's some pretty powerful software out there these days that makes the design process incredebly easier than it used to be. You can basically have every component tested in everyway before the construction process even begins.
