Default Honda/Acura power steering rack owners!

Ive had a bypassed PS system for longer than I have had PS. I originally just looped the fittings with a hose at the splined gear where it goes into the firewall.

I recently swapped my rack out, the new rack has NO seal on the piston, I looped the 2 fittings on the rack with the line, and the 2 fittings out the rear of the splined portion i just pinched off, and the loop on the front portion stays the same.

Id does not have the "smooth" feel that it had before(except when it would bind on right turns while car is jacked up) but its not rough either.

I am just curious as to how everyone bypasses their's. The system is really simple as it is set up, and I honestly cant imagine anything failing, but is there something I am missing?

I always gutt my racks to remove all the resistance the seals have and just grease it just like a non PS rack. Feels just like non PS rack with a better ratio (harder to steer). If you are thinking the seals are used to center or locate the rack, the answer is no. Those are just hydraulic seals.

It just feels as if there is a little more resistance. I greased up the splined portion, but what do you mean greasing it as if it were a manual rack? There is only resistance now in one spot, and that would be where the half moon shaped adapter is pressed against the shaft.

Have you adjusted the rack guide screw on the bottom of the rack? I've found that this can fix a too stiff or too loose feeling in the steering.

What are the guidelines when adjusting this? Is this the LARGE nut, which has another smaller nut in the middle of it?

I just adjusted this to where it was not extremely loose, and also not tight.
