Thinking of getting a new Prelude this tax season, need Recomendations.
So what do u guys think? If I can put a decent down payment on a newer Prelude, if i can find one that is, what Gen/Year should I go with?
Again this is one of those threads/questions that YOU the OP should be asking YOURSELF. The only thing I would caution against getting is the 92-93 4th gen due to the interior which most don't like. Otherwise it's a matter of preference best left up to yourself and not others taking into account your power goals and ambitions for the car.
94-95 Prelude Si or VTEC.
OBD1; updated gauges, center console, and vents next to the headlights.

I'd like to have a prelude that I can get some decent power out of it without having to do a swap. Now Im not trying to have someone decide which car I should get, I just want to know which prelude people would reccomend the most.

My vote is on a 4th gen vtec. less weight then 5th gen + a super stylish dash that will always amaze your passengers. although more issues may come with a 4th gen since there at most 15 years old now. if you go with a 5th gen dont get a automatic. trannys are prone to go out around 100k
lol the 4th gen prelude vtecs- "1995 Honda Prelude VTEC MT 2932"
5th gen prelude "1997 Honda Prelude Base MT 3009"
"1997 Honda Prelude Base AT 2954"
I pulled this from our faq section. I think the poster switched the AT and the MT weights up. I have looked other places and they say that the MT verision is 2954. If this holds true, the 4th gen would be 22 pounds lighter. 4th gens come equiped with a H22a1, 5th gens come with an H22a4. Dont know alot about the differences between the two but I was told that the H22a4 performs slightly better than the a1. It is the newer version of the motor.
Heres some things to take into consideration:
5th gen - Newer styling
4th gen - Cheaper
5th gen - Auto tranny = mal
4th gen - More Exterior accesories
5th gen - Newer = parts most likely in better condition.
4th gen - Usually more common, due to the price. (Not always true)
List could go on. All comes down to dee prefrence my friend. Want new sharp looking lines (tail lights, headlights, body etc.), go with 5g. Want "roundness" (tail lights, headlights, body etc.) lolers go with 4g.
Good luck my friend. Its about time you come up a gen or so huh? Never forget about those 1st gens tho. They started it all. Good luck

as far as weights.
1995 si vtec does weigh 2932 but compare that to the top model 5th gen not a base:
1998 sh 3042.
1992 S (base model) 2908
1997 (base model) 2954
base model is 46 lbs lighter
top model is 110 lb lighter
i posted it was lighter i didnt say extremley lighter just lighter.

power - weight ratio = all that matters. Drop H22 in a hatch = 13 second car untuned lol. Even tho it may only be 50 lb diffence, it still makes a difference. So thats another plus for the 4th gens.
