where should i get my bottom end balanced?
i had my block built by an un-named engine builder ( we'll call him larry), recently i heard that he had a block come out of his shop that had sleeves askew and two sleeves were tapered pretty bad. I trust the builder, he has a really good reputation. i called him he said he hadnt heard of this nonsense, and he guaranteed his work. Ok thats good. But i still want to have some bottom end security. I dont know how to check to see whether the sleeves are askew or are tapered. i can wiegh the pistons myself just to check, and i can have the whole assembly+flywheel balnced elsewhere. is anyone on here affiliated with rlz? and how would i check the sleeves? once i figure all this out my mind will be at ease and i can continue my build.
THANKS

A machine shop is the only way to check the balance. There is a static balance which would be the matching weights but what you are worried about is dynamic balance which can be off with exact weights just because the weight distribution is different.
weight distrbuton had to do wth the crankshaft. it can be balanced, but if the piston weights are off the rotating assembly will be out of balnce also. i realize this. i guess i should have been more to the point. i need someone here that knows someone at rlz, or a similar shop in the southeast. thats one , two is i would like to know how to check the trueness of my sleeves if that is at all possibly. i apologize for my vagueness. i hope the question is now better suited for answering.

I don't know the information needed, but I wanted to wish you luck with your build. I understand what you're saying completely by needing "peace of mind". Consider this a free bump.

I don't personally use RLZ, I use a local shop here in Jville (close to you as well) who turns out some killer work. Darton recommends them if you are on the east coast so they are doing something right. Name is Edge Brothers Machine in Jacksonville NC and the number is (910) 219-7817.
They have built several local sleeved 2.0's that have been past the 550 mark and a couple even higher. Guys definately get all my business so if you wanted to give them a try, I am sure you wouldn't be disapointed.
Wherever you end up, hope you get it all worked out man.

Thnks for the bump man. I guess whet i am trying to say is, is there a way to possibly check my sleeves for trueness at home? or would i have to send the block out to get the sleeves checked. And also i wanted this thread to sort of be a shout out to anyone here on HT that is representing RLZ, in the hopes of meeting an affiliate in person sometime soon. Or, if that is not possible, i would like to be forwarded to someone here in the southeast that has a good reputation, with engine building (and balancing of course.) Once again the ADD has screwed me royally. i can never seem to get my point across, but i appreciate the patience. THANKS
if you want to know whether the cylinders are tapered or out of round. you either need a cylinder bor gauge or telescoping gauges and a micrometer. i would just suggest going to another machine shop and have them measure them for you. to be honest though its not that hard, just people usually dont have those tools.
yea im going to go to my buddy's shop, performance cnc here in summerville,sc. i will use his mic to check the bore as far as i can get without breaking down the block. if it is out of band by more than a thousanth on any cylinder i think i am going to send it off, but if the sleeves are all true i think i might be okay. But i probably will break it down because attention to detail is what keeps stout blocks stout and keeps you from pissing all your money down the drain. I should post some pictures of my build and some specs, but its all TOP SECRET. maybe tommorow if anyone is interested
okay, some surprise news for anyone who cares, i was at performance cnc and i dialed in my combustion chamber volume and calculated my CR.... 14.4:1 woohooo!!! Now all i need to do is find some sweet cams! oh boy cant wait.
