Best tires for road trip CA-NE
winter tires with all this bad weather across the nation and some good chains like the z-chains and you will be fine... make sure you get all four snow tires
Thanks, we're taking I-80 east (Passing through NEVADA- then crossing into UTAH) then 304 toward CHEYENNE (Passing through WYOMING- then crossing into NEBRASKA). Would the blizzaks be a better buy over the x-ice? According to Tire Rack the size I want (205/55/16) Bridgestone Blizzak REVO 1 are $106 and the Michelin X-ice is $109. Its going on a 2001 civic coupe.

I don't think that's the best 16" size for your car.
If you have a Civic DX or LX, the stock size is 185/70-14. A better matching 16" size would be 205/50-16 (which is 0.5 percent smaller in diameter than stock, whereas 205/55 is 2.8 percent larger - not what you want). In 205/50-16, the REVO1 isn't available, but the Blizzak WS-50 is $113 and the Michelin X-Ice is $103.
If you have a Civic EX, the stock size is 185/65-15. A better matching 16" size would be 195/55-16 (which is 0.1 percent smaller in diameter than stock, whereas 205/55 is 1.7 percent larger - again, not what you want). In 195/55-16, the REVO1 isn't available, but the Blizzak WS-50 is $104 and the Michelin X-Ice is $97.
All three of these tires (REVO1, WS-50, and X-Ice) are excellent tires in the "studless winter tire" category. You can see a side-by-side comparison test of all three tires here.

well i have rsx suspension (5lug) on my civic. i'll be rocking the stock rsx wheels, which i believe come with 205/55/16 tires. so i dont know what size to get.

Stick with the tire size for the car, not for the suspension or the wheels. You need to match things like the wheel well clearances and the speed sensors that belong to the car and aren't replaced when you change the suspension or wheels.
I see, learn something new everyday. But dont you think wider tires have better handling? Because I know 205s fit on the car for sure. Thanks alot nsxtasy!!

For winter tires, narrower = better.
For winter tires, narrower = better.
205/55r16 will fit without a problem and so will a 205/50r16 as well at this point... so do what you have to do to get there in one piece and just remember when you have to replace them to get the 195/55r16 next time
